  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's look at what the Word of God says about the poor. We will only look at
Isaiah
3:13
The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.
14 The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.
15 What mean ye that ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? saith the Lord God of hosts.
10:
1
Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
2 To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
3 And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
11:
4
But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
14
:
30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
32 What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
25:4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
29:19
The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
20 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:
Isaiah 32:7 Also the schemes of the schemer are evil; He devises wicked plans.
To destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks justice.
Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

The poor, the afflicted, the down-trodden, the oppressed, fatherless and
widows, will always have a place in the Father's heart.

The Elect Belongs To The Son, The Poor To The Father, The Wicked to Satan

Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me because He has anointed Me.
He has sent Me to preach glad tidings to the poor (1),
to heal the broken in heart, to proclaim liberty to the captives (2)
and recovery of sight to the blind (3),
[2] to declare the acceptable year of the Lord (4)
and the day of recompence; to comfort all that mourn (5);LXX

Matthew 3:16-17 And Ιησους, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the Heavens were opened unto Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him:[17] And lo a voice from Heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Matthew 11:5 The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up and the poor have the Gospel preached to them.(1)
Matthew 4:12-17 The people which sat in darkness saw great light, and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.(2)
[17] From that time Iesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.(4)
John 9:39-41 And Ιησους said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.(3)
Matthew 5:1-4 (Disciples) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.(5)

It's the Father's Gospel, Deuteronomy 18:18-19, John 12:48-50, etc.
The Father chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and gave those who followed Him to the Son; and from them the Son called/chose His 12 Disciples.

John 17:6-8 I have manifested Thy name unto the men which Thou gavest Me out of the world: Thine they were and Thou gavest them Me, and they have kept Thy word.[7] Now they have known that all things whatsoever Thou hast given Me are of Thee.[8] For I have given unto them the words which Thou gavest Me, and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.

The Elect/Chosen and the Poor belonged to the Father... and then to the Son.

The Elect/Chosen and the Poor belonged to the Father... and then to the Son.
As I already have shown from the scriptures, the elect are
given to the Son by the Father. The poor, the oppressed, etc...
are rescued/delivered by the Son. They receive righteous
judgment from Him and His body, The Church of God in Christ,
who live and reign with Him. The poor, as indicated by the
scriptures, hold a dear, special place in the heart of the Father.
I feel like you responded to the title without bothering with the
exhaustive details provided. Your post draws reasonable
conclusions from the post, but to make this statement you
are splitting hairs. Only Israel, and the gentiles grafted in
to that natural olive tree are referred to as the elect. I don't
know of any scripture that refers to the poor as 'the elect'
and you provided none that I can see. In the end, God will
be all in all, so like I said, hair splitting.
1 Corinthians 15:28 Now when all things are made subject to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

the ones that were elected to do that, I would say, are the Elect

They have certainly gained that right.
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

These are the called:
Romans 1:6 Among whom are you also the called of Jesus Christ:

Will they heed the admonition?
Are they aware of their election? Do they know the personal
Will of God for their life.

2 Peter 1:
10
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Many are called, but few are chosen.

To prove is to know.
Romans 12:
1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

The elect are those who choose to serve him, not all do.
Romans 16:
17
Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.
18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

An enemy of the cross
Philippians 3:
18
For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.

Endure to the end!
Matthew 24:13
But he who endures to the end shall be saved.

You won't know until the last day.
John 6:
39
This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
40
And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Note: I am not condemning anyone to hell, but defining
the elect. Those who reign with Him.

2 Timothy 2:
11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him,
we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:
if we deny him, he also will deny us:
Matthew 7:23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

To serve Him is to come to know Him
1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. (Wow! Christian shaming! how un-PC!)

judgment from Him and His body, The Church of God in Christ,

But which poor people, is the question.

John 17:6-9 I have manifested Thy name unto the men which Thou gavest Me out of the world: Thine they were and Thou gavest them Me, and they have kept Thy word.[7] Now they have known that all things whatsoever Thou hast given Me are of Thee.[8] For I have given unto them the words which Thou gavest Me, and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from Thee, and they have believed that Thou didst send Me.[9] I pray for them--I pray not for the world--but for them which Thou hast given Me, for they are Thine.

Matthew 5:1-12 And seeing the multitudes He went up into a mountain. And when He was set, His Disciples came unto Him.[2] And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,[3] Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.

I feel like you responded to the title without bothering with the
exhaustive details provided. Your post draws reasonable
conclusions from the post, but to make this statement you
are splitting hairs. Only Israel, and the gentiles grafted in
to that natural olive tree are referred to as the elect.

Matthew 24:20-22 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day:[21] For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.[22] And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. (Matthew 24:23-28, Matthew 24:30-33)

Chosen and elect are from the same Greek word.

John 15:16-19 Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.[17] These things I command you that ye love one another.[18] If the world hate you, ye know that it hated Me before it hated you.[19] If ye were of the world, the world would love his own. But because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. (Audience: the 12 Disciples)

Matthew 22:1-14 For many are called, but few are chosen. (Matthew 20:1-16)

If few are chosen... then its these few that find the narrow way:

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction and many there be which go in thereat.[14] Because strait is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life and few there be that find it.

The narrow way was and is never crowded.

Matthew 7 says that man judges other men to be guilty of the same sins he himself has, in spades. These same men often pretend that their motivation for doing what they do is your motivation for doing it, too... as though "my way or the highway" even applies to sins. Narcissim, Manipulation, Covetousness... EGO is the source of evil (money is only the vehicle).

Any Adam or Eve who can be persuaded that they can be as god is supremely egotistical. But knowing good and evil isn't what makes a man godly... it's the ability to choose the good. And that seems to be a matter of genetics and strength of will.

Isaiah 7:14-16 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; behold, a virgin shall conceive in the womb and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name Emmanuel.[15] Butter and honey shall He eat, before He knows either to prefer evil or choose the good.[16] For before the child shall know good or evil, He refuses evil, to choose the good; and the land shall be forsaken which thou art afraid of because of the two kings.LXX

So... was Judas bad from birth? Is that why he was chosen to be THE traitor? Or was he chosen because of what he WOULD become? Were his parents money-hungry, too? Is it Nature or Nurture? Or a complete absence of free will?

Psalm 9:
15
The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made;
In the net which they hid, their own foot is caught.
16 The Lord is known by the judgment He executes;
The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.
Meditation. Selah
17 The wicked shall be turned into hell,
And all the nations that forget God.
18 For the needy shall not always be forgotten;
The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.
19
Arise, O Lord,
Do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be judged in Your sight.
20 Put them in fear, O Lord,
That the nations may know themselves to be but men

Hey Jeff. Here is a discussion that makes a few distinctions if you are interested
The poor, the afflicted, the down-trodden, the oppressed, fatherless and
widows, will always have a place in the Father's heart.
