  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Pinnacle Emotion (New Beatitudes)

The pinnacle emotion is high,
A place for anyone to reach-
It is a reason to rejoice,
And yet, its loss makes us weep.

In the midst of suffering,
Love remains kind-
It has no part with envy,
Arrogance is nothing in its mind.

You shall not find it rude,
But always considerate of others-
Love is not affiliated with hate-
Evil is not its brother.

It scorns of things unrighteous
And encourages that which is pure-
It never leaves one to bear a burden,
But uplifts a sister or brother.

It will give hope to those without,
And endure the times that are frail-
When all else breaks man down,
Love shall never fail!

Yes, and many others. Poetry is a way for me to release pent-up emotions. Here's another one of my favorites that has always helped remind me when I'm going to make decisions.

Death is the Weather Vein

If we shall call life a foundation,
Death is the weather vein-
If we shall say life is the beginning,
Death shall be its end.

As people reflect upon the vein,
They'll see the direction you walked-
How you had made it through the storms-
If you had ever stopped.

Did you point to the place
Where the wind directed you to,
Or did you refuse to turn
Afraid of what it meant for you?

They'll look from the foundation
To the utmost tip-
Everything that's in between
Will show how your life was spent-

Did you show great interest in value
And keep your standards high?
Were details tediously smoothed
And the materials kept looking bright?

They'll build their lives like yours
So you better keep it sane-
You never know who's being guided
By what's below your weather vein.
