  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The stuff about the Magi at the start of the thread is very refreshing to see, as it is indeed the truth. The Magi were of a group known as the "Way" amongst other things, and the pentacle is their symbol. They often also carried a small fish made of silver around their necks, and it is because of this that the first "christians" adopted this as their symbol, as Jesus was also a member of the Way. The silver fish was not an ornament, but was a primitive compass, when dangled on a string it would point to magnetic north, hence the name of the Way.

it is a beutiful symbol but because ive seen so many witch films it scares me sometimes.
Yea if crosses were etched into the floor in red paint with a flaming circle around it, crosses would scare most Christians too  Good old Hollywood. They know how to scare the best of us.

Whoops I can see I made a late nigth mistake but I can work around that cause I have no idea how to edit the poll. Anyway yes the post is on the pentagram and the poll says pentacle.well as far as I know the pentacle is derived from the pentagram. So the poll is correct using pentacle because we are referring to how people see a witch's symbol. But expand it to pentagram if you feel like. I hope this fixes up the late night swapping of names, but its not such a bad thing.

so to set things straight in simpler terms, do u think the pentacle is bad yes or no etc.... well it has huge connections to the pentagram.just look at the design and here is some info I came across.......everyone happy?

I would like to learn what the swords in front of the cross stand for ?
Blessings,

Let's see I could give you a deep reflective explanation ^_^ but the truth is the avatar is one of CF standard avatars under the avatar category 'crosses'. I was actually quite surprised they had this as an avatar choice. Works for me though. :sorry: I like it because I'm an esoteric Christian mystic and the depth of this avatar appeals to me on multiple levels. The swords and the cross truly reflect my belief in Christian magick and the black reflects the depth of being a mystic. ;)

It is a symbol I would personally not own or wear because of it's links with mysticism and the such. I don't think any symbol has any power. Wearing a cross doesn't make a person a Christian. Wearing a pentagram doesn't make a person evil.

I feel the same way about it as I do a swastika (NOT comparing to a person who would use a pentagram to a Nazi, so don't go there). The swastika itself was a symbol used for a long time without any particular negative meanings. When the Nazi's decided to use it, it became primarily associated with them, therefore it is another thing I would not ever consider owning.

Speaking of which, a crucifixion on a cross was a typical way people in general were put to death in Jesus' time. Because it's the way Jesus was put to death, that's why Christians use the cross as a symbol. It doesn't have any sort of power and meant nothing until people decided to use it.

Since I don't want to be associated with Nazis, I don't use the swastika. Since I don't want to be associated with pagans, I don't use the pentagram. I would assume a pagan wouldn't wear a cross.

...but the UPSIDEDOWN pentagram is satanism...it mean the 2 horns over the trinity
Yet, this was not always so. It only came to be used in this fashion in the late 1940s. Before that the inverse pentagram was both a Jewish and a Christian symbol, signifying the Morning Star and so forth.

The cross was a symbol of DEATH....
This was not always so, either. It also was a symbol of life, and so forth. For many of the ancients, it was one of the most potent of fertility symbols. For the Babylonians, it was the symbol of the male virile potency. For the believers of Mithra, it was a symbol of his power and of the extension of the visible universe, and so forth.

I think a category needs to be added, saying Depends upon the meaning for the user of the symbol. I'd vote if there were such an option in the poll.

Who cares what it was in the past....and show me some proof that it was a symbol of life...this is today and the cross means "jesus" people dont think it means death, or associate it to executions (except relgious "stupid" people) Jesus deserved the cross...i hope it was a horrible death for him...plus since i believe he doesent exist anymore (since i cant belive hes in hell cause he doesent exist) I hope hes buring in hell for Blasphemy!!!! But seeing that i dont believe there is a god....I hope hes just in hell rotting!!!

Wow! That's probably the most hateful thing I've seen on any post on the entire site. Interesting. You pretty much just lashed out at anyone. I don't think DCP was even advocating anything at all in that post, merely pointing out various uses and meanings of the cross symbol. Where on earth did all that hate come from!?
