  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had been getting to know this Christian woman, and she said she was looking for a Christian man. But the thing is, either I meet an overly Christian, high-horse type of woman, or someone is a Wiccan or some progressive belief system. Think Angela from The Office.

I asked her a few questions to determine whether or not she was one of those radical types. I asked her if she didn't mind drinking on occasion or if she avoided certain movies that forgo good storytelling because of the content within them, she said, "Sure, no problem...I know how to have fun!"

So I finally met someone that falls in-between those two types. I was rather relieved and told her I kept meeting these radical types that incessantly post Godly posts online. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but there's some that I get a sense, depending on the context, that they are on their high horse or "I think I'm better than you" vibe to them. Esp. if that's all they ever do. I like humility in a woman and friends.

Anyways, the woman I'm getting to know says, "Oh those aren't really those following a Christian doctrine, but moreso that they are just highly religious"

So it's about religion that makes these people the way they are and not Christianity? At least that's what she thinks.

When one's everything is God, it tends to spill over and show itself often.

I don't feel that's "religion" at all. If you're a (good) parent your whole day your mind is fixated on your child in some form. Likewise for many Christians, God is on their mind and heart throughout the whole day.

Christianity is a relationship with your Creator. And unlike even other relationships, this one commands people to make Jesus their number one in all things (Jesus' own words).

I'm on my high horse on the time in many people's eyes. People often like other people to conform and stoop low to their level. Christians refuse (or should refuse) and this causes others to see devoted Christians on their "high horse". Christianity is not half "regular" life and "half Christianity". There is no such true faith, as Jesus said if he isn't your all, you do not deserve him.

I'd only ever date or marry a truly devoted Christian. Likewise these women are probably only doing the same.

Depends on how you define your walk with God. To some, drinking alcohol is a sin...this was news to me when I found out, but this was coming from one of those high horse types...when it's probably debatable. Other believe it's not a sin at all.

I'm in the moderation category when it comes to that, so it's pleasant to find someone that isn't so strict and caught up in things of which aren't sinful, having been convinced in their upbringing that is sinful. I knew a Christian woman that was seriously crushing on a choir member. When they all went out to eat, he got a single beer. That was enough a deal breaker for her. I was like "Judge much?"

I think belief systems fall more on a spectrum.

There's also just something that's off putting when they shout it from the rooftops. I usually wind up unfollowing them on social media. I just feel if you need to brag about your troubles you went through and how you come to find God...on a DAILY basis. There's just something phony about it.

I agree with that.

I came to realize the same after being Christian for over 20 years.

I think you finally found a keeper!:oldthumbsup:

I mean... phony people are phony people. But genuine devoted believers can fit your op description as well.

So yeah. Guess it all depends on what your trying to get across here.

You're in agreement because her comment validates your belief. And those who feel otherwise aren't wrong. You're not compatible. It's that simple. ;-)

I love French food...French fashion...and French handbags. I love the Lord, biblical submission, and living a purposeful life. I'm not one dimensional. But if you wanted the latter and couldn't accept the former. I'd say no.

I like pretty things. I love beautiful surroundings. That's part of my makeup. You want moderation. Great. But its interpretation is different for everyone. You can't expect everyone to agree.

Here's the skinny. You need to know what you can live with. Seriously. Few people match in every area. There will be differences. You will have areas of compromise and others you're unwilling to bend on. Be honest.

I'm in the moderation category when it comes to that, so it's pleasant to find someone that isn't so strict and caught up in things of which aren't sinful, having been convinced in their upbringing that is sinful.

Sometimes a person's beliefs are influenced by religion or inner conviction. I won't begrudge the person who refuses to drink. I allow them their preference without judgment.

There's also just something that's off putting when they shout it from the rooftops. I usually wind up unfollowing them on social media. I just feel if you need to brag about your troubles you went through and how you come to find God...on a DAILY basis. There's just something phony about it.

A lot of Christian women struggle with social media. They see images of perfection and other things they desire and it creates an internal dialogue that feeds on the issues that were already present. Many feel insecure and inadequate. They can't relate to a positive message devoid of struggle. It trips a switch. I've read the reviews of Christian authors. If their life is 'too rosy' as defined by the readers; the reviews are brutal.

I can't wrap my mind around it. But having witnessed the same in Christian business groups where members were told to stop sharing their success and chided for the oppression the messages have, I'm of the belief there may be a greater reason for the things you're seeing.

I am very tight-lipped about my life for this reason.

I have no problem with it. If it gets to extremes where they're annoying or over the top I just discern that it's either from a character flaw or immaturity. In times where it's these then I can be understanding. But when it's just people that are operating with a spirit of religion (which is actually demonic) then I just try to avoid them and walk away. The Bible says they have a form of godliness but deny the power.
