Pls help me.....I was trained so deeply in this worldly culture, my dream is to become a writer and be famous, this is also my parents' dream, and slowly it is becoming my idols now
and then it means the real idol is myself, i guess..
Lord , pls help me, let me really understand and change.

If you have a gift for writing then go for it, but remember to get into His Word, and you will never know you might write a good Christian book about love and forgiveness.

I know how you feel, several years ago I had dreams like that too. I still have them, but God is making them less about me. Try to think of ways that you could serve God by writing...do it for Him. And really take it to Him in prayer. Ask God to help you live for the Kingdom and to have an eternal perspective.
Remember that wordly fame doesn't mean much in the end...I used to care about that stuff a lot and read about celebrities and dreamed of being like them...but it doesn't bring the satisfaction that we expect from it. Only God can truly satisfy. We were made for Him, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Him (Augustine). Just try to develop your relationship with Christ and all the rest will follow
Also remember that it's hard to write anything really good if you're thinking about becoming famous if you want to write that's great, but let God guide you...His plans are better than ours.

Deuteronomy 8 talks about how we shouldn't forget the LORD because of the wealth He gives.
I believe that would apply to non-monetary gifts as well.

There is nothing wrong with dreams and to pursue them with a passion. It may even be God's will for your dream to come true. God has given us talents and skills and we have a responsibility to use them and not waste them.

Something becomes an idol when it becomes more important than God. You can have all the passion for whatever your dreams are, but as long as they don't get in the way of your relationship with God, then go for it.

How do you tell if something has become more important than God?
Just look at the passage with the rich young man who was unwilling to give up his wealth to follow Jesus (Matthew 19:16-26). It wasn't the fact that the man was rich, but that he was unwilling to give it up, which meant that he considered his wealth more precious than following Jesus.

As long as your dream never becomes more important to you than God, you can be sure that you are worshiping. Every step in your dream, pray about it. Give it back to God that whatever you do, may it bring him glory.

what i would do is put the writing to the side for a while, focus on God and ask Him what HE wants you to do, too often we have goals for our lives and it is not God's plan. His plan is perfect and we will lead a blessed life if we follow it. Put the writing to the side as God for forgiveness for your idol and seek His face and His will for your life.
