  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is possible to be nutritiously optimal and vegan. It just takes money, or a farm/garden. There are more vitamin, minerals and antioxidants in vegetation than meat. Where do you think the meat gets it from?

Adam and Eve, and pre-antediluvian people were vegan, or vegetarian (the Hebrews, at least.)

Unlikely, human bodies are best fit for hunter gatherer lifestyles without various tools, etc. I take this moment to remind people that farming is a human invention, and that we aren't naturally inclined to do it.

Humans before the flood were herbivores - at least the Hebrews. And, they lived hundreds of years.

Ok, ignoring that living hundreds of years isn't possible in most people's eyes, what is undeniable is vegetation and it's impact on a healthy life. Vegan/vegetation lives are easy to get nutrients - sometimes easier than omnivores or carnivores. There are complete proteins in pasta, legumes, and vegetables, and a combination of vegetables give completeness. Vegetables have fiber, carbohydrates, nitrogen, and several other nutrients needed. You just have to know which vegetables they are.

My blood type is ideal for being a vegeterian, and I never liked meat even before I studied the science of blood chemistry and nutrition. There are blood types that benefit better from omnivorous or carnivorous diets. But, humans can survive off of vegetation alone with no problem, and you will get more antioxodants, vitamins, and minerals. With meat [clean] animals eat vegetation, then digest it, then whatever survives is deposited into the meat. Hardly the 40% DV of iron or whatever you need. You would need to eat a 10+ oz steak to do what a pound of pasta with sauce would do for iron. And, you expend calories through chewing a steak and the taxing digestion of meat.

Stop trying to complicate this so the horribly inadequate commandments from the Iron Age look better. The little commandment I came up with in a few seconds says you shouldn't desire to kill, maim, or harm living, breathing creatures. If I kill a cow for meat, that doesn't mean that I wanted to kill the cow... but if it must be done for survival, it must be done. If I had spent minutes rather than seconds on this, I might have re-worded it so that it said "Thou shalt not desire to kill, maim, or harm conscious creatures, but do so remorsefully when necessary." But then again, seconds already outdid the original ten.

So, by that logic, anyone who can come up with a justification for killing other humans is perfectly fine.

"We don't want to execute these criminals, but we have to, because they are dangerous"

"We don't want this person to die, but we have to kill them to end their suffering"

"We don't want to kill these minorities, but we have to, in order to keep the Aryan race pure"
