Well, as I predicted, RockStar INXS set a high bar for this type of show - and although the "music experts" that sit on the panel on The One are pretty much the cream of the popular-music crop, this show on the whole does not meet that standard. The house band is not near the quality, the live sound is marginal, and everyone is way too smiley and chummy..... IMHO.....
That said...... I still love this kind of show......
And my vote goes to Austin Carroll - as one of the "experts" said, there's greatness in him. His vocals overpowered all the other contestants'.
comments.....
Jackie the Cuban girl in the black minidress - "Hot Stuff" - pretty voice, unremarkable performance......
Jeremiah the Texas boy - don't even remember what he sang - yawn.....
Aubrey - "Born To Be Wild" - she has potential, but she would've been way more at home on RSINXS. She's very young, so perhaps she's still pretty moldable, we'll see......
Nick Brownell - Aubrey's boytoy - "Let's Get It On" - better than I expected, but that's not much..... I cracked up when whatserface called him "frat boy"
Adam - He was my pick when they all came out and sang one line of "Feels Like the First Time" (which by the way was sickeningly up-with-people-like - ewww) - and I thought his performance of "American Woman" rocked - he's my runner-up pick to Austin...... and I dig the dreds.....
Jadyn - lots of talent, lots of young, fresh poster-ready looks, not my cup of tea, but okay..... needs some maturity or maybe some pain in there to grit her up a little, imho.....
Scotty Granger - I wasn't as impressed with him as the judges were - I thought the vocal performance was weak - I liked the "big boy gettin down" moves though, and I do think he's got style. But I want to see him sing more from his heart the way he did in the little video clip.....
Michael Cole - I was relieved when he performed - I thought - oh, good, I won't be bored after all. He was fun! His vocals weren't all that polished, but let's face it, for that kind of music, he doesn't really need turtle-wax or anything.....
Syesha - isn't she the girl on that oreo commercial?
She has talent, and she's beautiful, and I LOVE that she seemed to be leading a Bible study in the house
, but there's nothing really original there, from what I can tell...... but Jadyn's right - she's her competition, and it's all about how well they each do on a particular night.....
Caitlyn - she's a pro - and I think she'll get a recording contract whether she wins or not. I enjoyed her performance, love the violin, and I'd put her a close third right after Adam for tonight's performance.
Adam - what can I say - he was downright awesome.
my picks for the bottom three - Jeremiah, Nick, and Jackie.
I think the home audience will vote the most for Aubrey, because she's a babe, and the bottom three will be Jeremiah, Jayden, and Jackie. I don't think Nick will be in the bottom three, because I think people want to see him and Aubrey some more.
I think the music experts will save Jackie, and then Jeremiah will be the first one to leave. That will be sad. I hope I'm wrong - I'd like to see at least one more performance from Jeremiah, to see if it was just nerves tonight.
