  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The older I've become I've just stopped watching the new outlets. They're so colored. Its not that I'm not aware of what's going on in the world, because I am - you can't avoid it as we're inundated with it in so many areas. I've just focused my effort on developing my reliance on the Lord to help guide me in my daily life and to alert me to the things he wants me to know.

It's cool, I aint trying to convert. I would just ask that you put the same kind of scrutiny towards science as you do toward religion. Don't just swallow what some group spews just because they were the label of scientist.

I am skeptical as is justified. Religion and science aren't on the same level and I wont treat them as if they are in the name of some false equality.

On the science debate of this thread, all I am trying to get across is that science is no longer pure...government, especially American government, has its hand and money very involved in it...now, this isn't always a bad thing but to say certain "pressures" are not present to angle science toward certain political goal is foolish.

Well I would agree that politics tries to influence sometimes, but I don't think to the extent that major theories are brought into doubt.

Just turn some of that skepticism that is pointed at anything that includes God to what is coming out in the scientific community...

Doctrines of some random denomination aren't on the same level as major theories accepted by most scientists. I will be skeptical when it is relevant, but I resent people trying to probable truth into opinion.

which is full of VERY LIBERAL scientists...but what can one expect when our higher education almost solely promotes liberalism.

Or perhaps they have just come to their opinion because they understand the world and the need for evidence and reason.

Exactly this...everything else your said wasn't worth quoting
You just demonstrated my point!

You can't handle anything that doesn't match your worldview. You simply dismiss it outright, so you don't have to think about it. Then you go here and waste our time with your ranting about how Fox News and CNN and all the politicians are lying to you, but you know what? You're responsible for that. If more people would be capable of researching and thinking for themselves, the news networks and politicians and corporations wouldn't get away with lying anymore.

I have no pity for you, sir.

Which would include religion.

true...when man gets involved with even religion corruption is soon to follow. That's why we must stick to Scripture. It is the only thing in the entire world that has not been corrupted by shifting moral standards and practices.

But you are not sticking with scripture, you are sticking with your interpretation of scripture. How would you demonstrate that you have not been deceived, and what you are promoting is not just more corruption?

Would you ask me to put my money into a bank that cannot be audited?

I don't.

I do not to swallow what some group spews just because they have the label of "religion". They should be as open to scrutiny as anyone else.

Pity? Who asked for pity? My problem is with the perimeters of debating different views and opinions themselves and how the opposing sides trade mutual respect for calling each other ignorant....

as you just did.

Am I unbending when it come to my faith in the Lord...absolutely and any thought or opinion or worldview that denies the existence of God, THE GOD, is worthless.

No real science contradicts the Word of God.

and they are...I would go as far to say probably more scrutiny than any other subject and so far Scripture backing God and Christianity has held true and stood the test of time.

That's an interesting statement, coming from a person that already said the following:
I don't dismiss science, but because of my fundamental religious views (that will never change) I refuse to believe in any worldview hiding under the science label...
And this as well:
Does this make me somewhat backwoods, sure, but I don't have to change or "evolve" my thinking with ever new discovery then back track it when it is proven false.
And, my personal favorite:
It is all about God and if God don't fit in it, it aint true.

You say the Scripture and God withstand scrutiny, but you also say you will never change your views, and will never change your thinking or correct errors in your way thinking. Clearly, your scrutiny suffers from some some major flaws.

Pity? Who asked for pity?
Originally, I thought you asked for advice, but after you repeated yourself several times and told me, in cryptic but still understandable words, that you do not wish to think for yourself or even adjust to evidence that is presented to you, I discarded this possibility.

My problem is with the perimeters of debating different views and opinions themselves and how the opposing sides trade mutual respect for calling each other ignorant....
Mutual respect? You call it mutual respect to state that you will ignore the other side if their points contradict your worldview?

as you just did.
I called you ignorant. You called yourself ignorant. I don't see the difference, except that I didn't sugar-coat it.

Am I unbending when it come to my faith in the Lord...absolutely and any thought or opinion or worldview that denies the existence of God, THE GOD, is worthless.
You talk so much about mutual respect, and now you flat-out tell me my worldview is worthless. In fact, you even told all the other atheists who did treat you with respect that their worldview is worthless.

No real science contradicts the Word of God.
You just committed the No True Scotsman Fallacy! Congratulations!

Are you skeptical of those things which are claimed to be reasons one should not be a disciple of Christ? Or do you accept the opinions and ideas and arguments of anti-Christians without scrutiny?

^_^ That's your question?

No, no I do not. I don't automatically agree with whatever Richard Dawkins et al say, he is not our atheist-pope.

Any more tedious questions?

On the subject of science, could you provide an example of an experiment where "God" was shown to be of scientific significance?

So when you say "held true", you really mean "remained religion"?

The older I get...
...the more I distrust anything reported about any topic, whether it be politics or human affairs or even science. I mean the only secular topic I trust as fact is pure mathematics.

Is this a common occurrence as we get older or is this a direct result from the amount of pure sewage we are required to swallow every day? I have just about gotten to the point where I watch the news once a week because there is so much hateful nothingness on it.

Anyways, I am glad I am secure in the Lord because those lost souls who are banking on humanity to come up with all the answers and speak the truth are building some big houses on some sandy foundations.

Just having a bad day I guess...
We all have days like that dear friend.
Wait till ya get to my :D ;)

Matt 7:24 "Therefore, every one who doth hear of Me these words and doth do them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock;
25 and the rain did descend and the streams came and the winds blew, and they beat on that house and it fell not,
for it had been founded on the rock.
26 `And every one who is hearing of Me these words and is not doing them, shall be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand;
27 and the rain did descend and the streams came and the winds blew,
and they beat on that house, and it fell, and its fall was great.'

Revelation 14:8 And another messenger did follow, saying "Fall, fall, did Babylon! the great city,
because of the wine of the wrath of her whoredom she hath given to all nations to drink.'

The only truth man knows without God is money...follow the money on any topic and the corruption is revealed.

This is more true than anyone realizes. Look at the global warming email scandal a while ago. The scientists were caught faking data in order not to lose research grant money. Even after it was discovered, they still tried to hush it down. (Hint: Greenland was named for its ice and snow, it used to be lush farm country). Why do you think they went from global cooling to global warming now to climate change? I distrust science these days because every study comes out to be on the same side of whoever funded it.

When they can be truly objective again and not corrupted by the research funding donors, then they will be trustworthy again.

All that comes out of money is sin, lies, and evil.

I must have missed that. I did see something about e-mails discussing a "trick", where, it turned out, "trick" meant an elegant mathematical method.
Even after it was discovered, they still tried to hush it down.
The 'hush" was a natural consequence of a complete investigation which revealed no wrongdoing.
(Hint: Greenland was named for its ice and snow, it used to be lush farm country).
Greenland was not lush when it was named. Not even so "lush" as Iceland. People were discouraged from immigrating into Iceland by its name, so Greenland was named to encourage colonization. The farmland was always marginal, and the economy based mainly on fishing. But a very slight cooling trend wiped out farming entirely, and the dark freezing winters prevented support from Scandanavia.
Why do you think they went from global cooling to global warming now to climate change?
Climate is chaotic. It is exquisitely sensitive to initial conditions. Science adjusts its findings to fit the facts. Where I live it has been an unusually cool summer. Hardly a day has been over 110F. This is because the overall warming trend has increased winds and so we have cooler air off the Pacific tempering the heat. Farther east, it would seem that things are not so good. Overall, and by number of record high temperatures, it has been the hottest summer since we began keeping records.
I distrust science these days because every study comes out to be on the same side of whoever funded it.
Uhh ... No. Almost all climatologists agree that the warming/change is real, and anthropogenic.
When they can be truly objective again and not corrupted by the research funding donors, then they will be trustworthy again.
So, if my quarterly profits depend on continuing existing practices, all I have to do is corrupt a very few scientists, and the credulous will discredit all the honest scientists.
All that comes out of money is sin, lies, and evil.
Not all! It's just all you notice.

Discovered what? About six independent inquiries were held, and no wrongdoing was found. Give it up already.
