  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The old laws

Something occured to me while reading this passage. By the "Law" does this mean what is written in books like Leviticus? If so, would Jesus expect us to fulfill things like the old cleansing rituals written then, or believe that we are "unclean" if we've done something like sat on the bed that a menstruating woman has been sleeping in, etc etc?

I mean, it's said somewhere else that God never changes, so why has the way we keep his laws changed?

Matthew 5
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

There were "ceremonial" laws given to Moses, and by him written in a book. But the law of Ten Commandments spoken from Sinai were written by God Himself on the tables of stone.

There are many who try to blend these two systems, using the texts that speak of the ceremonial law to prove that the moral law has been abolished; but this is a perversion of the Scriptures. The distinction between the two systems is broad and clear. The ceremonial system was made up of symbols pointing to Christ, to His sacrifice and His priesthood. This ritual law, with its sacrifices and ordinances, was to be performed by the Hebrews until type met antitype in the death of Christ, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. Then all the sacrificial offerings were to cease.

Oh, that makes much more sense. :) Does that include all the stuff about being unclean until evening, and all that? Is that all gone now?

Simpletrust, i think if you read Galatians Chapter 3, it may answer a lot of your questions.

Thanks for that recommendation! That chapter did clear a lot of things up, although I wasn't quite sure about one verse...

[BIBLE]Galations 3:25
Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.[/BIBLE]

What exactly does it mean by the "supervision"? Perhaps I should look it up in another translation...

Thank you so much for saying so! Now I'm less worried about posting my endless questions here, lol. I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to be asking questions about scripture that confuses me, is it the right place? Because sometimes I do find myself with a lot of unanswered questions.
