i watched the first episode yesterday and it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but its nowhere near the quality of the original.
because they had to cram it in to 20 minutes rather than 30 it was moving far to quickly from situation to situation so there was no time to show the monotony of the work which makes it lose the atmosphere that The Office had.
the new Brent did well but again he cant beat Gervais with the timing and the way he delievers lines but some of the new spins he puts on the lines are good.
the Tim and Dawn (aka Jim and Pam) situation is FAR too obvious in the US version.
Gareth (aka Dwight) seems a lot more insane in the US version. rather than just being an idiot who thinks he's better than he is he comes across as a nut. plus you cant beat the accent that Gareth has when he delievers lines such as "one word, two syllables - demarkation".

all in all it was OK. when there were original lines it was good and did make me laugh a lot (like when he shows his "worlds best boss" mug that he bought for himself). but when they were following the original script it didnt seem right as it just seemed like they were doing a carbon copy which seems pointless - just watch the original and the best!

what did you think about it?

I am a big fan of the original series. I haven't seen anything of the US series yet, but I can't imagine being it as good as the original one.

There are also 2 german versions of "the office", they are both quite good actually. Nowhere near as good as the original but surprisingly good.

The pilot was just rehashed jokes from the original, but the rest of the series has been pretty good. I'm looking forward to next season (assuming they're doing a second), when the actors have gotten more used to working together.

thats what i thought they did - i wouldnt watch it if they just did the same script but with American accents. ill watch the next couple of episodes to see what they do to it.

Well, I haven't seen the original, so I can't make a comparison. The pilot certainly was slow. But some of the other episodes were decent, which it sounds like those had more original plots than the pilot did. I am looking forward to see it next season, and I did read that it is indeed being renewed for another season. NBC has nothing to lose at this point.

Eh. I think if you watch the US version as if it was a completely different show, completely ignoring the UK version, that it is pretty enjoyable.

That said, the UK version was great. I've got both series on DVD and watch them regularly. Gervais kills me with his lines and timing. And I love the interaction between Tim and Gareth. Great show.

oh yeh its a watchable show on its own definately but its always going to be compared to the original and i dont think it ever do enough to outdo it in my mind becuase everything about the original is so perfect.
