Oceans have always fluctuated in heat. Ice age come to mind?
Yep, but...here and now, it's going the other way, in a big way, and seems likely to end up with a fair part of Florida (and very many coastal cities in the world!) under the waves when the bigger storms come in...

There will be more similar to New Orleans under water events here and there around the world in the next 10-20 years, and it looks like that's only the start of it.

I was wondering about recent year ocean conditions vis a vis global surface heat, and the article does well to give us this detail with the number of years:

"Three years of La Niña conditions across the vast tropical Pacific have helped suppress temperatures and dampened the effect of rising greenhouse gas emissions.

"But scientists said heat was now rising to the ocean surface, pointing to a potential El Niño pattern in the tropical Pacific later this year that can increase the risk of extreme weather conditions and further challenge global heat records."

Wow....we were already getting pretty warm years (globally) even during the La Ninas

Signs of the times!
Only in the sense that we're still mortal and in a corrupted world. We've been in the 'end times' since Acts 2 and Peter's sermon at Pentecost, or Hebrews 1 which announces the gospel fulfilled OT law and ushered in the "last days".
So theologically, it's consistent with being this side of eternity. But it's not like it's on some timetable counting down to the end.
But ethically, what does this demand of us - given we're polluting the air, causing health problems for our neighbours, and heating up the climate? That's why I think Christians are to think about and do something - even little like changing how you vote - about climate change.

I hear you! Australia has had 3 years of rain and flood which has recharged our bush to burn again.
2019's drought and mega-fires were like nothing I've ever seen. Sydney's grass went yellow like straw, and then thick disgusting smoke for 6 months. Fires. Then 3 years of La Nina. Floods, which washed toxic ash into all our rivers. Then Covid. Pandemic.
It's certainly been an interesting few years!

You don't think God works on a timetable?

But ethically, what does this demand of us - given we're polluting the air, causing health problems for our neighbours, and heating up the climate?

It demands we get busy and witness to others, before it's too late.

That's why I think Christians are to think about and do something - even little like changing how you vote - about climate change.

That's like polishing brass on a sinking ship.

I'm Amil. He has one - but we don't know it. He could return in 5 seconds or 50,000 years - we just don't know!

It demands we get busy and witness to others, before it's too late.
Sure - but that's always been the case for the last 2000 years.
What's unique now is how our lifestyles hurt the poor and vulnerable countries in ways we have trouble imagining - and only climate scientists can help us visualise. That's an ethical responsibility under "Love your neighbour" - like so many things. We don't all have to be experts in it, but we do have to know enough to care and do our bit.
That's like polishing brass on a sinking ship.
Anything we do this side of heaven could be seen that way. Dinner parties, fun, "Marrying and giving in marriage", fighting for justice for the poor, preventing lead poisoning in our paints, educating children, treating diseases, feeding the poor, locking our homes and cars at night or when we go out. It's all polishing brass.

But in another way all these things also come under "loving your neighbour."

I'm all for "love thy neighbor."

But what is it you want us to do?

Give up our:
  1. gas-powered cars
  2. cement patios
  3. glass windows
  4. barbecue grills
  5. fireplaces
  6. soda pop
  7. CO2 extinguishers

Which category do you fall into?

It shows the hypocrisy that people of high religious commitment who believe God gave humans the duty of care to protect the Earth are more likely to deny climate change is human induced.

Looks to me like we've boxed ourselves into a no win situation.

I don't know where it's coming from specifically.

But for the sake of arguing, let's say climate change is the result of poor stewardship of God's creation.

In dispensation theology, which I subscribe to, each dispensation ends with a judgement of God on the earth for not doing what we are supposed to do.

Thus, the judgement that ends the Dispensation of Grace -- (which is what we are under now) -- is the Tribulation Period.

And in the end times, Jesus said there would be a rise in weather phenomena.

It's going to happen.
