Top federal agency exposed for spending billions on migrants in a single year

The Biden administration spent tens of billions of dollars on grants to migrants and refugees through one of its government agencies, including over $10 billion in just one year, according to a new watchdog report.
The watchdog group Open the Books looked at grants to nonprofits awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement. Its responsibilities include caring for unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the southern border illegally and refugees entering legally.
The watchdog found that in FY 2021, it distributed $2.4 billion in grants to nonprofits. In FY 2022, it distributed $3.4 billion, then that number skyrocketed up to $10 billion in FY 2023 before being reduced to $4.2 billion in FY 2024.

Ten billion dollars sounds like a lot, but it is only 0.16% of the federal budget. The wealthiest country, holding 30% of the world's wealth, spends just 0.16% on migrants and refugees. We should allocate more funds to this cause.

Oh. So we should let unaccompanied children wander the streets sleeping in alleyways?
We should shut our doors to refugees like Trump did to Syrians?
Perhaps Gov. Abbott's plan--razor wire and throwing kids back in the river--is better?!

How does that compare to the number of unaccompanied migrant children in our care over those years?

Good news! Biden is no longer president! I cannot say I’m too surprised, sadly :(

Very nice considering that verse is taken out of context ;)

Especially the part about separating parents from their children.

" The policy sought to deter illegal immigration by separating parents from their children near the U.S.-Mexico border and prosecuting mothers and fathers. The eventual public outcry led the Trump administration to stop the practice. However, Donald Trump wanted to reinstate the policy during his presidency and said after leaving office that separating parents from their children is an effective deterrent. "

Brilliant plan of a "stable genius".

DHS said the task force's painstaking work of combing through "patchwork" information kept by the Trump administration on the policy had so far found 3,924, mostly Central American, children were separated at the border.

In context and totality of Yeshua's teachings regarding the least of us, not at all.
What is espoused by way too many proclaimed Jesus followers is the opposite.
In fact, it is readily apparent those least of us teachings of Jesus take a back seat to the policies of Trump.

Ok? I’m opposed to ILLEGAL immigration, I don’t care who comes here legally.

And no, I’m not saying either party or Trump as a whole represent Jesus or Christianity. I admit that.

Those people in regard to the OP are not here illegally. Again, "it is readily apparent the policies of Trump take a back seat to those least of us teachings of Jesus."

Yes, this is indeed a notable point. We Americans provide substantial charitable contributions globally. No other country can match the amount of foreign aid, private donations, or missionary support that we offer around the world.

Despite the fact that Americans comprise only 5% of the global population, USA hold approximately 30% of the world's wealth. Here is an overview of charitable donations outside the United States:

Philanthropic Contributions: In 2023, philanthropic contributions amounted to $49 billion. While this seems like a significant amount, it represents only about 0.23% of the Gross National Income (GNI).

Foreign Aid (US Government): In 2023, foreign aid provided by the US government totaled $71 billion, which is approximately 0.3% of the US Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Individual Giving: The United States leads in individual charitable giving compared to other countries. However, there is no specific data on how much of these individual donations are directed overseas.

Americans are known for our charitable contributions. However, when comparing the available resources and high income, the donation rate is less than 1%.

Exposed for extending a hand to those most in need?

"The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) is a program within the Administration for Children and Families, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services12. Established in 1980 through the United States Refugee Act, the ORR's mission is to promote the health, well-being, and stability of refugees, unaccompanied alien children, and other eligible individuals in the United States12."

Key Responsibilities

The ORR provides assistance to various groups, including:

  • Refugees
  • Unaccompanied alien children
  • Asylees
  • Victims of human trafficking
  • Survivors of torture and war
  • Cuban and Haitian entrants
  • Special Immigrant Visa holders

Taxes are to spend for the common good of the people who pay those taxes.
Welfare was ruled to be in that class because the money was given to the relatives of tax payers, American citizens.
That is why Federal benefits are not given to immigrants until now.
A legal immigrant on a work visa must wait 5 years to collect any benefits
Yet, these new classes of asylum seeker have benefits the minute they arrive.
The US government is not a charity organization. And to promote the agenda of Churches who advocate mass migration as a religious principle and use federal funds to finance that religious agenda is a violation of separation of church and state.

I think there has always been gov programs to help asylum seekers.
The Reception and Replacement Act of 1980 was created to provide rent, food, and essentials.
I know Florida has always had those type of programs specifically for Cubans.

The Reception and Replacement Act of 1980 was created to provide rent, food, and essentials.
The only federal program for asylumees was Food Stamps and only if they qualified, which usually meant children.
Generally an asylum seeker cannot receive Federal Benefits until granted asylum which could take up to 7 years or more.
There are emergency programs administered through NGO's but whether that funding is legal is now a question.
It is being investigated as money laundering and fraud in some cases.
