CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think when some people say, "You're not listening" it really means, "You are not understanding this the way I'm understanding it."
As someone who has studied a good number of views, Christian and nonchristian, most views are logically coherent given their assumptions. That doesn't make them correct - but it does explain why some very intelligent or nice people hold to certain beliefs.
Most people try to understand a different view based on their own personal assumptions. Since the assumptions don't match, it just never quite makes sense, and leads to a quick dismissal. Instead one must identify the assumptions of the other view, then "walk in their shoes" to arrive at even a basic understanding.
Of course that kind of communication takes work, and for interaction to take place requires respect of the "opposition" and some degree of humility to admit to not knowing something.

i don't think so.... la, you just can't make these kinds accusations against ppl and not back them up with any reputable evidence.
It's really not very Christian to do this in case any one here didn't know that.
You need to take ppl at their word and then at least TRY to understand what they are saying.
To just plug up your ears and continue to spew more accusations is not something I respect at all coming form any one baring the name Christian.

just let me say that I think your a christian either way
regardless of whether I think the act is technically contrary(or at least waaaay too similar) to something god forbids
you are still a believer in Jesus and I consider you brethren...we all get things wrong(including me and DD2008)

we can listen and we can hear but when actions do not follow up the words then I question of what I heard was actually the truth of what they say.. Such as the other thread that was closed..
I heard and I understood and I took it to scripture and scripture tells me that bowing is a part of worship just as when the man tried to bow at Peters feet and He was not happy about it.. Like when John bowed before the Angel and He too told him to stand.. So bowing to a marble image and praying to who this marble image is of to me looks like worship. One says they do not but the actions do not meet the words..

The bottom line is as follows... DD, I think likes this arguing becuase he invited me to this thread under the false pretense that it was an attempt to come to a meeting of the minds... and then I read the OP and he calls it an excuse???
It is no excuse, it is absolutely the truth... last night, none of them were listening at all to our explanations.
DD went on and on and on posting rubbish, claiming we do not worship God, we do not trust God, claiming we do not have faith in God, etc.
EXCUSE ME.... But that is akin to claiming we are not Christian and not only are we not Christian but we are pagan.
I ahve no time for that rubbish... I' m not entertaining that rubbish.... I'm just over and been done with Anti Catholics. I do not give them the time of day.
