  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have never had paella :(

It's a good rice dish usually with chicken, chorizo and sometimes seafood, I "TRY" to make it but I can't seem to get it right. :( OTOH I can make a very good Red Beans and Rice with homemade Tasso. :)

After all these years I'm sure it's been discussed, but Google pulled up nothing on point. Can anyone explain the logic behind a No-Fly List?

If we can identify a person as being potentially likely to kill a couple of hundred people on an airplane, why wouldn't they be just as likely to kill any number of people anywhere else? And so why are they allowed to walk the streets? Either it's a stupid idea to have a list devoted solely to airline travel, or else we need to be locking up thousands more people on suspicion.
That's grown to be about 100,000 people.
I would say because they are a known risk but there is no crime done. Also, they might have full citizenship status in another country, and the ones refusing them entry do not have legal international authority to put them away.
Nobody even knows how they all got on the list. Ted Kennedy tried to find out....
Simple.

Not enough evidence to detain or arrest them.
Well let's see, there was a retired US Army General on that list, cannot remember which one. Ted Kennedy was on that list. And our family friend blond, blue eyed kid that grew up in this little rural town, both parents school teachers was on that list, still is the last I knew. Because my daughter was standing in line and visiting with him she was also targeted at the airport. We all almost missed our flight to get to my son's wedding. He got pulled out again in LAX on our way home and that is not suppose to happen twice on the same ticket, but it did.
Of coarse none of these is the Actual person that is on this No-Fly-List but because someone was on that list with the same name people are detained, extra searches are done, and if the TSA person is not satisfied they can refuse to let you fly. It doesn't even have to be the exact name, just similar in some cases.
They say that it is easy to get off the list but I know for a fact that it did not used to be that way. Fill out a form online, then wait, and wait, and wait. Contact them again...... It may be easier now, but I wouldn't count on it.
Five year old children have been detained, honest!!
The No-Fly-List is bogus. It is merely a show to make you think you are being protected and I suppose you are better with it than without it. BUT, if it is used to infringe on innocent person's lives and rights then it shouldn't be used. Now if they would get it right, so that these stupid and numerous mistakes are not made, then by all means let's use for gun control.
Develop software so that there is a picture to go with that name, what's so hard about that?

Of course.

And, its SPICY. And moist. And cooked/chopped in front of you. Add a good COLD TING (or Stripe) and some festival bread...
I wouldn't be afraid to say the last time I had a cold Red Stripe was about 20 years ago, will have to look for some the next time I go to Jungle Jims they import all kinds of good stuff...

IMO we should pass a law preventing people on the no-fly-list from buying guns. Not because it's a good idea, not because it's reasonable, but because that way we'll finally have some constitutional challenge to this regulation. FWIW, it would be entirely reasonable if we didn't consider owning a gun to be a fundamental right in this country (most other countries do not), but the precedent it sets is good for only one thing: immediately and clearly being overturned by a court.
