  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, I just didn't think Christy meant to start a long debate thread over the semantics and application, or how individuals understand the creed to read or be in effect...

You are absolutely correct. I had no intention of discussing the semantics of the creed. I stated several times the reason for my post. Thank you for your answers Zemirah.

Zemirah's answer is correct.

You have my sincere apologies if you felt attacked, but in the year that I've been at CF I can't recall this question ever being asked by someone who didn't have an agenda of some sort against us. As a result, it sends up a "red flag" for pretty much every one of our regular members. The last time it was asked, it was by someone looking for enough dirt to have us booted off of CF.

I have no doubt that you didn't mean any harm, but you've unintentionally started a thread that picks at wounds that have yet to heal. :)

Please believe me when I say that I was fully unaware of that. I had no idea that this was a problem in the past. I sincerely just wanted to make sure I didn't speak out of turn on your behalf if the question came up. There seems to be a lot of controversy on the differences in beliefs among Christians. This happens to be one of the main reasons for Atheism. I find that sad. :(

I understand Christy, and thank you for your sincere sensitivities to us

I would not go so far as to say that all MJ's believe in the Creed of Nicea, for some this was a slap in the face to all Jewish believers who were purposefully left out of this most important gathering.

I also had no clue about this. I'd love to learn more about that.

True enough, Zayit.

Christy, there is scads of info on the net about it...

Some links from Google (I just popped in Nicene Creed Jews, and Council of Nicea Jews). Note: I didn't read the articles myself...

http://www.yashanet.com/library/antisem.htm

http://www.bibarch.com/glossary/MI/CouncilofNicea.htm

http://www.sullivan-county.com/identity/trinity.htm

lots here:

btw -- I didn't mean to say "all" MJ's agree... :sorry: I meant to say "many", or perhaps even "most"... so if I mis-stated that... sorry, y'all.

Zem, I hope you will excuse this uninvited footnote to your post.

Christy, I would limit my attention to the more objective (less biased) view of history employed by the writer of the material from this link included in Zem's quote ^.

With MJ's you are going to find a plethora of harsh opinion on matters which were of no concern to early believers of The Way -- matters such as the dual nature of Christ, the Trinity and even the Incarnation, to mention a few. This is quite understandable. Similiar sentiments regarding the evolution of religious thought in the Church led to the Protestant Reformation; the faithful wanted a simpler, uncluttered Bible based religion.

A most interesting thread, where the OP is considered by some to be a veiled attack, rather than the honest question that it is. Sort of "guilty before proven innocent".

We Catholics can at times read inquiries the same way, thinking the question is an attack and not a sincere quest for knowledge. How many times will be asked about our worshipping of Mary?
Yet, we do answer the question directly with "No. We do not worship Mary.", followed by an explanation of what we "do" in regards to Blessed Mary.

And so, the question of the OP of THIS thread, should be answered plainly, without attacking the person.
The MJ members should be able to answer for themselves.

Peace be with you.

Dearest Sweet Christy:

I join the chorus of those who appologize for the bumpy road you got on this topic.

So you understand real good this topic here is about like a topic saying "Why do Catholics pray to Mary" in OBOB. And I am sure that you know no matter how innocent the question might be it would hit some stern responses.

Now as I take the corner of my tallit and cover my sisters shoulders too let me just say this: "Christy is one of the dearest, sweetest ladies you are ever going to meet on CF. She is working out her faith to the best of her understanding and truely has a desire to grow in the things of G-d. If she asks a question it is just that a question and she asks because she wants to know. And I dare say she is dearly loved here on the MJ forumn"

Now then Christy you should know us well enough by now to know there is NO one opinion on things from the MJ community. :) Unlike Rome we have no human central teaching authority.

For the most part though I would say most MJ's and Most Charismatic Protestants will have problems with the wording of the Nicene creed. My personal biggest problem is that like most prayers that are recited by rote, people say them and don't examine what they are saying. Thats so sad. I also personally have a problem with the notion that it is baptisim that forgives sins I just don't ascribe to that.

Now for really important stuff -
How did your day go yesterday young lady?
Care to share and post some pictures?

Blessings

Walk in love

Pastor George

You are a very sweet person. My day was blessed, I felt such a real presence of God. I am waiting for the pictures to be developed. We aren't allowed flash so I will need to get the pictures from the church photographer. When I get the pictures I will post them :)

Pastor George, There is a little Jungian synchronicity at play here. I am sure you did not know it, but yesterday at Mass Christy (as shared on OBOB) bumped into, so to speak, this rather well-endowed lady with her endowment pretty much right there serving communion with a curve.

She could well have put to good use the corner of your tallit.

Shalom

LOL! That was Ash Wednesday Toney but you are right, she could have used the corner of his tallit!

LOL, oh my. Here I was thinking of all the things that could happen during communion... I thought maybe someone spilled the cup or something like that. Yes, it sure sounds like this woman could have used a bit of extra fabric.
