What do you think of Erwin making CF into a social networking site?

Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
Aha! I've been wondering when someone would bring this up here. I was considering it myself, but was unsure if it would be a good idea. What do you think of Erwin making CF into a social networking site?
Just to add to that, the strange thing is that the poll Erwin put up resulted in keeping the name. Yet he did it anyway. In a main thread discussing this someone also found information that said he spent $7000 on the new site name and such. I doubt we'll see it change back anytime soon, if that's the case.Aha! I'm against it. However, I trust that Erwin had valid reasons and I'll give this a chance. I also have faith God will help this place to still be a place He can use.
When I first found this site, it was the name that got me. I don't have a chance to fellowship with Christians very often offline, so I wanted to find a place online. I've been to a few before but they were never that..good. So when I found this place I got excited. I loved it. I've met some wonderful people here and have grown as a Christian, not to mention the countless times this place has pulled me back to God when I've stumbled..even in the short time I've been here!
Changing the name means a new type of people will be attracted to the site. Although I understand that it opens up to more witnessing, I doubt it'll be very successful because people just looking for social networking rarely are looking to be preached to.
This site was all about fellowship among Christians, with the option of others being able to join and learn in a safe environment. And many who aren't Christians do come here.
Changing the name just makes it blend in with all the rest of the forums out there, and could lead it down a bad road. This site will lose a lot of people, too. Only reasons I'm staying are these:
1) I love my friends here dearly, and I know it's still an Adventist subforum so the main site doesn't change that.
2) If I left, I wouldn't be able to help God work here even with the changes.
Blessings and Love,
Sarah
Very true. I have the CF icon on my Yahoo toolbar where I can click the link anytime.BLAH!![]()
I don't care what Erwin chooses to call this place. I still have it listed as Christian Forums on my favorites list!
I agree Crimson. This place rocks! Where else can you make up your own character and have a free profile page and pet to boot?!![]()

Wow...I wonder how much money he'll be making in the near future from site supporters, compared to what he would have had it not been changed. I had been considering being a supporter before this.Yup. And the domain was apparently purchased before...though he could have re-sold it.

I would say he got ripped paying 7k for that.
Exactly! In an attempt to make it open to more people, it's been forced to become neutral. Being neutral means it's adapting to the world, too.I'm a site supporter, but I won't support a "networking site" that doesn't have a specific purpose in mind.
For instance, I support a site that helps with weight loss, one that helps prisoners, one that helps poor people get legal assistance, etc.
This site doesn't seem to have a "purpose" anymore, but we'll see how it turns out.
This may be Erwin sticking it to some folks who were wanting him to take the name "Christian" out because they thought it was not Christian enough.
A 7k idea to get a point across is pretty spendy though. Unless he figures he can always sell the name again.
Or for that matter he could sell the CF name for far more.
I like it, hope he keeps it.... hope you all get use to interacting with people who are not like you..... as for "the world" issue.... the bible says that God so loved "the world" that he gave his son....
no one is preventing you from engaging in fellowship.... and worldly things are what? what exactly can you engage in on the internet, in the christian sub-forum that would be worldly?Possibly. I still don't like it, though. =\
That's the thing. I already interact with pleanty of people who aren't Christians. 90% of my friends aren't, and I'm a member of several other websites and forums already. This was the one I came to when I wanted to fellowship.
As for loving the world, God may love "the world" but that doesn't mean He loves wordly things like the negative stuff I mentioned.![]()

This could be the very opportunity to be a living witness...
the name change has not prevented you from pursuing that goal...I hate the changes to be honest. The name "foru.ms" is silly and unappealing. I don't come here to network. I come here to debate and see if anyone can change my perception of the issues.
however they are still present....they have not been eliminated though with the amount of fighting that christians do among themselves it wouldn't be surprising if they were to disappear....Has anyone else noticed that most of the Christian based forums are located towards the bottom of the homepage?
