I agree, but look at the link I posted up there. it shows all the instances and phrases that word is used in.

Ok I did... let me share a biased opinion.... I think we as adventists will be more inclined to choose the translation that contains the words "commandments" cause we are wired to emphasize that, while other less obsessive christians may lean towards the "washing their robes" translation.....

Do I have proof of this? Nope... but it just seems like its something we would do.....Let me hasten to add this is not a slam or a put down, we just are more prone to emphasize certain things...

Example, when I am driving on the road I am more apt to pick out the vettes on the road than say the Hondas.... Honda's aren't bad cars, its just that I have an eye for the vettes.... adventist's are probably more apt to pick translations that emphasize commandments.... that's all I am suggesting....

Actually, I prefer the KJV, and that is the translation that I quoted from. More than just the KJV use "commandments" there. However, clean robes also symbolize righteousness.

Statrei is Adventist and he used a translation (I'm not sure which one) that used washing of robes, so I think the point you are trying to make doesn't really fit. If all Adventists were obsessive about using the translation that says commandments, then I'm sure that generalization would include statrei.

However, I do see what you are saying, even though I politely disagree.

If you changed every instance that the phrase was translated to make it say washing of robes, the Bible would seem quite odd. I can give instances if you'd like. For now, however, I must be wrapping up my day.

God bless.

I'm wondering if we can EVER stop debating a topic to death and just enjoy what the OP intended and that is our eternal life. Tim- I want to thank you so much for starting this thread. If we would think more on heaven and less on being right all the time, life would sure be nicer, as would this forum.

Let's just pause to ponder and dream about why Christ died for us. He knew what wonders awaits us and He didn't want us to miss it. Yes, eternal life is the gift that we are given, but the marvels that awaits us is what makes that eternal life worth the living. Although we have a very dim view of what it's really going to be like (eye hath not seen nor ear heard)--think for moment of some of the sneak previews the bible gives us of what awaits if we remain loyal.

First the love--oh my! The love that we feel towards persons, pets and things in this life is but a sad snippet of what the true agape love really is. We know in part here, but when given our new natures, love will be the reason the heart beats. First and foremost the love for the Father and the Son. Then love for each other--more pure and sweet then ever known now. Looking to each other's needs above our own--giving will be natural. Tender compassion will rule the day. All peace and harmony! Marvelous!

Then the adventure--yes and flying too. For me, no more fear of heights and airplanes. lol The mind clear as crystal, to explore and understand the mysteries of life. Intelligence unfetterred. Throughout the ceasless ages--never-ending learning.

Life here in the new earth, what a place. All pristine beauty beyond description. Someone said even the air will have a variety of wonderful fragrances to delight the senses. Colors unknown to us now will fasinate the eye. New species and varieties of flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruit will abound. All for our pleasure. And yes, all my beloved animals. All unafraid of man for the first time since the flood. All of them at peace and harmony with us and each other, their form and substance beyond what we have ever seen--their beauty unsurpassed. And us-our bodies perfect, strong, immortal-radiating with the love and intelligence of our Maker. No more illness, no more death, tears or sadness. But vibrant health and unmatched happiness.

Is anything on this present earth worth missing any of this? Can we see why Jesus is so anxious to save us all? He knows what awaits over there. When the roll is called up yonder I pray everyone of us can respond---HERE I AM! Not one lost Lord, please, not one.

But all this reflection is just wishful thinking as long as we cannot explain why we are still here. In fact, it begins to sound like burying one's head in the sand.

Olika, woe to those who are comfortable in Zion. We are not home yet. There are no signs on the horizons that we are getting home. This should be our supreme concern. This is especially true of the Advent Movement which was raised to promote the Second Advent. The New Earth is of no consequence until the Second Advent occurs.

But, you should not fear. If you concentrate on the Second Coming the New Earth becomes a central issue. That is because the New Earth is only the Old Earth restored. Life in the New Earth wll be no different from life in the Old Earth.

"Life on the New Earth will be no different than life on the Old Earth."

Not so my brother.

I won't have to watch a terminal lung cancer patient turn off her O2 and smoke a cigarette through her stoma.

I won't have to tell my Lord that I've broken His heart - again.

The joy of watching my aging parents loving each other so much wont be mitigated by the knowledge that in all liklihood one of them will die first.

I will run and not grow tired. And I will never have to run FROM anything. Always toward my God.

No my friend. My life will be nothing like it is. And if God didn't want us to ponder these things - He would not have revealed them to us.

It's about ballance, that's all. Watch the golden ring, but don't forget to keep your feet in the stirrups.

Just my two pennies.

You're very welcome sister. Let's keep it rolling.

I can't wait to explore space! Doesn't matter how big it is - we've got all the time in the world...

Er... galaxy....

Uh... Universe?

Oh you know what I mean.

And what about the home you'll build. Not your place God made in the City but the one on that distant world witht the purple skies and the seas of red mist - where the trees seem to sing in the warm breeze...

1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Wow.

I agree with you. I remember when we were planning our honeymoon. We watched the brochures of Italy, Austria, France, Germany. Lovely. But it meant nothing until we bought those tickets and got on that plane. Drooling is wonderful but why be satisfied with that?

So, in the new earth you will do everything you enjoy doing now but in a sinless environment. You may even write books because we won't all have the same knowledge. There will be so much to learn and explore.

Hmm interesting thought. I would write a love story when we get there, but the greatest love story has already been written. ;)

Do you ever think about the house you'll build your wife? Will you need a roof? Will it be made of birches, trained into a great cathedral ceiling? What do yuo wonder about, when you wonder about the life to come Stat?

I won't be building a house. We won't need possessions. Sleep under the stars, though the ladies may disagree. I am a thinker, and a scientist. I may spend the first few hundred years just observing. But what would I observe? Maybe I'd explore music.

Yeah. Under the stars. Good call.
I bet you spend the first thousand like that, observing.
Lord willing, you can let me know if we were right.

Baby's down. Time to lift some weight and then write that book.
God bless brother.
