The Nephilim

It seems there are so many possible explanations for these creature's from the bible. This particular author has this take:

"Heron then goes back to Genesis 6, citing verse 2: "The sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all that they chose.

Writes Heron: "What this verse is implying is that these 'sons of God,' who were created spirit beings, had intercourse with ordinary human women and produced children. But these were no ordinary offspring."

The result of the unions, Heron says, were the Nephilim, Hebrew for giants, that are mentioned in verse 4. The fathers, also are referred to as Nephilim, which also means "the fallen ones." The author says the fathers were malevolent spirits, or demons.
The Nephilim, then, were "a hybrid of demons and men. They were evil and wicked by nature and could not be rehabilitated and made good, for the evil was in their genes."

According to Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel, the Nephilim are aliens that he believes will come back as the anti-Christ. Does the Catholic Church have a take on these beings? And is it important to know? Anyone read this book by Heron? It looks interesting and apparently it's, "A unique book that purports to explain the past existence of giant beings referred to in the Bible as the Nephilim is skyrocketing up online best-sellers lists, now appearing in the top 10 at Amazon.com."

Basically we decided it wouldn't be such a hot idea to dwell too much on things so spiritually dark in nature, and since there's no way such info could help any of us draw nearer to God, we dropped the topic.

I have no idea: re the official Catholic take on this...anybody know?

There's no 'official Catholic' interpretation of this, Kim.

I happen to think these creatures were of partly demonic origin. Not aliens.

Most of them died in the Flood and, at the same time, God fixed the boundaries between the devils and us so that we are safeguarded from this sort of thing.

I agree that these creatures were most likely demonic in origin, and when God promised to destroy them in the flood, we have every reason to believe He kept to that promise.

Beyond that, there's really not much else to tell/know. As you noted Wiffey, there is not much use in specualting any further. But I think its important to note that the pagans/cults of today have a dark interest in the Nephilim, and are even attempting to bring them back to life through satanic rituals/witchcraft. I once spoke to one young woman who was convinced she was a Nephilim. I tend to doubt her claim though, considering she was not 8' tall and ran from town to town pillaging and destroying. But the Nephilimistic state of the heart could have been there (or perhaps she is at the very least setting herself up to invoke such an evil/hardened state of the heart if she persists in her beliefs).

There are lots of far out speculations regarding the Nephilim. For entertainment I read "fictional" novels from the Christian perspective. There is a three novel series by L.A. Marzuli, Nephilim, Unholy Deception, and The Revealing. Then there is Mike S. Heiser's book Facade. Heiser's book, however, will really make you stop and think about it. It's very, very technical.

I think they will come back and inhabit the body of Col. Sanders. Then they will spread their message of hate through all of the drive-thru KFC's. That is why we have to be ready to abstain from chicken at any time.
