fulfilling when we bring our whole selves into our experiences. Many activities cause us to engage more than one portion of our being. A moving sermon might move us to tears. A well written play might be immensely thought provoking. And a song might cause our toe to tap. When it does, I see no reason for concern.
Honestly, I would truly love to know the source of this oft repeated myth. All the critics agree that David's psalms were built upon repetitive phrases. God has not placed a limit on the use of repetitive phrases. We may have personal preferences in this area -- and that's certainly OK -- but these opinions probably only have relevance to the one with the preference.

It seems that people's objections to more modern praise choruses often go beyond the concept of repetition. In fact, there are a number of praise choruses that aren't repetitious at all (or certainly aren't any more repetitiuos than a hymn).
Other criticisms to more modern worship songs include:
1. The rhythm is too syncopated, leading to strange biological responses;Have any of you heard such objections? Perhaps other ones too? What do you make of it?
2. People need a hymnal so they know how to sing the song;
3. Songs lack overall depth;
4. Songs are unfamiliar.

Princessdi,Ok?! somebody needed to tel David, and then we have Handel's Messiah where more often than not the songs are repetitive. then not let's talk about heaven where the angels cry Holy, holy, holy,............Nobody told them about repetition......you'd think if it got on God's nerves He would have said something long before now, right?
Yes, BFA, for shure! Been there, done that! Those are usually to one who are attempting to control worship service, trying their level best to avoid any kind of emotionalism, lest it rears it's unpredictable head. LOL!!!
That's actually very true. There are many who are afraid of emotion and would prefer to bifurcate their entire being in order to avoid dealing with it. Here's the reality -- God created us to be emotional creatures. We bring these emotions into everything we do, including worship. We can either live in fear of this fact, or we can stop pretending that we aren't emotional creatures and choose to embrace God with the totality of our being.
Sometimes the ones who have the hardest time with this concept are the ones who see themselves as the most mature Christian in any room.

Princessdi,This is true. There is a term we used at BSDA, "spiritual vulcans)(for terkkies)
To add also, that when we talk about being created in the image of God, we aften bring to mind and believe that it is about physical characteristics. it actually means that we were initially created in the "character" of God. the very place which through the sacrifice of Jesus, we are striving to return. In the Bible, each and every emotion is attributed to God at some point. Emotions are indeed that with which we were created. our Creator loving molding us with His own hands, when He could have just spoken us into existence along with everything else. How much more emtional can you get?
