  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi everyone!

One of my passions is MUSIC! :tutu: I just love it so. Music takes me to a different place. I just love singing praises to God - it's one of those things that's just really special.

So, I'm thinking there are others out there that love music too. This could be the place we can gather to chat about which song we're "stuck" on at the moment, which songs mean the most etc...

Share links, lyrics, artists, pics etc....

Let's share our love for music!

I confess, I am not a major fan of modern Christian music - but I love Steve Green and have several of his CDs. His voice, music, and lyrics are so powerful and worshipful.

Personally, I am a fan of awesome congregational singing. I was "raised" in a church that was actively taught how to sing - and sing well. We were good at 4-part harmony. We had a regular cadre of good song leaders who knew how to start a song on the right pitch (i.e. not too high, not too low) and we had some fabulously inspirational worship songs and hymns. I love singing at full volume, looking around at my fellow Christians and encouraging them and being likewise encouraged. Such singing is so uplifting and spiritually fulfilling!

But, that's probably not what you were thinking about when starting this thread, so I apologize - but I had to comment because it seems such singing is being lost on today's churches.

My wife likes a number of singers/groups and is able to listen to her Christian radio station while at work.

Thx for the thread.

In Him,

Can we talk about *all* music, or is it specifically for Christian music? Am likely to ramble endlessly about both :sorry: Sorrysorrysorry in advance... :(
Aw......I like to read you rambling. :)

At the moment I'm listening to Watermark...the purest place.
Been listening to it almost endlessly for weeks now. But I'm finding the songs very grounding. Does anyone else have that experience? When things seem to be piling up on me, I tend to drag out music that feeds my soul and listen to it over and over again...until I get the message. :)

I've been listening to a Messianic group named Kol Simcha. I liked their music so much that I ordered their 4 CD's over the summer and they were kind enough to include 2 other CD's just for grins! Wow - freebies. Anyway, Messianic music is tonally different from regular Christian music, but it's hard to explain how it's different. I'll see if I can find some sound bites.

I love Steve Green also - he used to come to Florida and sing for 2-1/2 hours for $15. What a voice!

I haven't listened to ccm in years, though I did like Deleriou5? time was. I don't listen to contemporary music in general, although I do like
How to Save a Life' by The Fray.

Typically, I listen to traditional church chants and baroque orchestral pieces, namely Bach.
I love Bach as well - a master of the fugue. I also like some of the Gregorian chants, though only when in the right "mood."

All time favorites though are Mozart, Haydn, and Strauss - ok and don't shoot me - but I like Abba too.

Yeah, I've never heard of "messianic music" myself. I'll see if I can find Kol Simcha somewhere and listen to a few of their songs.

If we're talking Christian music there's very little contemporary Christian music that I listen to (too man centered and too little God focused). I do enjoy a lot of Third Day. I also like Chris Tomlin's "How Great is Our God." But mostly I like the more traditional hymns (Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Fairest Lord Jesus, It is Well, Great is Thy Faithfulness)

Other than that I like country, 70's pop/rock (it's what I grew up listening to), and Broadway musicals.

It's got sort of a middle eastern sound to it.

Here's a link to their web pages but when you click on the cd cover none of my favs play:

Gaaah - even when I dug into Messianicmusic.com for samples I couldn't find any. Rats!

The very same thing happens to me actually. :D There is something very very very special about personal worship. When it's just you and God alone. It's awesome!

Someone else on this thread mentioned chants...what are they?

Hi there! I also LOVE third day!!!! They are one of my faves. Right now I'm hooked on Show Me Your Glory. It's awesome!

I absoluetly adore the Hymns you mentioned. I also love "I love you Lord" I think that's what it's called. The lyrics are:

I love You Lord
and I lift my voice
to worship You
O my soul rejoice.

Rejoice my King
in what you hear
may it be a sweet, sweet song
in Your ear.

Then, you will love Selah. They are contemporary, but have done some of the most wonderful traditional hymns you will ever hear. Check them out on Itunes. Try "How Great Thou Art" first and you will be hooked.

BTW, on the second verse, they are singing in the African language they grew up with. They are third generation missionaries in the Conga. Go to their website. Their testimony is awesome. There is another song which at the beginning you will hear a very old recording of their grandfather baptising people there in Africa. It will give you CHILLS!
