• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Most Important Decision

The most important decision a person can make which will affect their eternal joy is?

  • Accepting Jesus Christ as one's Savior?

  • Being baptized by the right authorities?

  • Obeying all the laws of God?

  • Joining the "only true church on the face of the earth," (i.e. the Mormon Church)?

  • Supporting whoever claims to be a "prophet," "seer," or "revelator?"

  • Getting married to the right person, in the right place, by the right person?

  • Consistently paying one's tithes, including "fast tithes" to support the poor?

  • Wearing the proper undergarments for protection while on earth?

  • Going on a mission and proselyting Christians?

  • Earning a business degree from BYU and becoming a PR person for the LDS Church?

After completing some research for a writing project, I came across something during the research provided by the LDS Church which piqued my interest. In it the Mormons consistently pointed to one thing which absolutely assured everyone who partook in it the joy of eternal life. Do you know what it is? Please make your poll selection and comments, and after a while I'll share their imperative assurance with everyone.

All the laws of God are summed up in loving your neighbor.

Ah, but that is not one of the selections, and that certainly is not what Mormonism tells us. So, please make a selection. The answer is there, and then we'll talk about it later.:)

Dang it and I thought it was getting a business degree from BYU and representing the LDS church.

(Mind you I'm joking and I mean no offense to any of the LDS members. Well joking about the business degree. I am half thinking about working on a philosophy degree at BYU.)

Methinks that some people aren't taking this poll seriously :( Whatcha think, Daren? Did you mean this thread to be a joke

Sven

You're probably right, Sven, but the Poll is to be taken serious, since it stems from something that I discovered along the way to writing a paper on the existence of God. What I think may be the real problem is that many of our LDS neighbors are leary about what they're going to discover, not only about LDS beliefs, but about themselves as well.

The one I voted for is the one I see most often when I watch BYU TV for no more than 5 minutes at a time. It is often said several times in someones speach, in regards to a co-op effort.

Thankfully, I don't have cable. And when I have viewed BYU-TV, it was for even a less amount of time that what you've watched it. So, I can't relate to what you're saying, except that obedience is a big-time theme as you suggest. But, just a slight hint, when I was researching, and as important as obedience was, it even took a backseat to this definitive principle.;)

Deren,

I have to admit that I've never heard of "fast tithes" before. Are they the opposite of "slow tithes," or what???

BTW, how have you been?

SW

Actually I should have said "fast offering," rather than "fast tithing."

In addition to tithing, we have in the Church what we call fast offering. The members of the Church fast once a month and contribute the equivalent of the meals not eaten—and anything in addition we would like—as a fast offering to help the poor and the needy.--Ensign, June 1998.

As for how I've been, oh, just finer than frog hair.
