The Most Challenging Game

What in your opinion is the most challenging game you have ever played? Mine I think would be Project Gotham Racing, to me it is very hard and the second being Baldur's Gate.

contra was pretty hard. a lot of those snes games where u get 3 lives and then u gotta start over. and baldurs gate.

Sacrifice was pretty difficult in a non-annoying way. That's the key. If a game is impossible for no reason, it's not good, it's poorly designed. There has to be a sense of accomplishment even in failure. If it feels like I lost for random reasons, I won't play a game anymore. I want entertainment from computer games, not torture.

Alpha Centauri would be it! I couldn't even get past the 4th level (of 6), and I have been through a few games...

Easily Syndicate:American Revolution. 30 sec into the game, your 4 man team(armed with pistols, etc.) gets mugged by 60 guys with rocket launchers and chainguns. Oh, you can only control one guy at a time and it's in real-time.

Some old nintendo games are practically impossible. The hardest game from this latest generation that i played would have to be Super Monkey Ball.

I see a huge difference between 'challenge' and 'unforgiving'.

Unforgiving - Contra I, III; Gradius III; Doom II on "Nightmare".

Challenging - Halo (solo) on "Legendary; any online game (i.e. Day of Defeat.)

Devil May Cry (on Dante Must Die Mode) is really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really HARD.
but on easy mode i beat it in Two days

Ok, so it's a bit late in responding. For me, it's the Cossacks series of games from CDV. Those are extremely difficult even when using a trainer. 'Bout all I can do to get troops built before I'm overwelmed with scores of enemy soldiers.

Nobunaga's Ambition is the most difficult strategy game I ever played. Didn't play it that much because I could never get more then ten turns or so into the game before being overrun by at least triple the amount of troops (and in this game, there's only one action per turn).
