"Only the one who practices sin fears.
The virtuous one is always happy.
Why should we fear anybody,
when we know the Lord is just?"

(Guru III, Sri Raag : Guru Granth Sahib Jee)

I'm not a Sikh but it resonates with what I've always known since I was a child, there is no reason to fear God if you love righteousness because God is just.

Not from religious texts, and not really poetic, but I find beauty in their meaning:

Nam, ut Plato ait, nemo prudens punit quia peccatum est, sed ne peccetur*
(Seneca)

Men have forgotten this truth," said the fox. "But you must not forget it. You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.
(Antoine de Saint Exupéry)

* - Because, as Plato said, noone wise punishes because of sins commited, but so that no sins will be commited.
