I think as Christians we should always be thankful for what we have--especially in North America and should not have an attitude of "entitlement" where we feel we deserve more. I was certainly thankful for my last apartment and the rental assistance but as time went on, I realized there was a moose that lived upstairs. Everyday the moose would walk back and forth across my ceiling, thump, thump, thump, thump....everyday...at all hours of the day and night. It was like chinese water torture. Pretty soon the thumps became like sledge hammers on my walls... Eventually I decided I had to get out or I was going to go psycho--thump, thump, thump, thump.... I found a new apartment that was so nice that I decided to move in immediately inspite of the loud freezer next door. I thought, "anything is better than the moose." The lady said she was going to buy a new freezer but then her car broke down and she had to spend her money on that. Now, day and night, the freezer motor drones on.....loudly like a diesel tractor next door. Every once in a while it will stop--silence...so silent you can hear a pin drop!! At first I am shocked and the deafening silence will sometimes wake me up and I will imagine I'm on a fishing boat and the engine just stopped...but then I will just shout "praise the Lord, OH my god, it stopped...." But my apartment is so nice with a sliding bay door opening out to a lawn and a creek that I am patiently saving up money to buy the nice lady next door a new freezer.
