Has anyone else here been extremely blessed by meeting our precious mentally handicapped people? There is a young man that works at Mcdonalds that just blesses me so much, This young man is always smiling and welcoming people. He lives in a "care center" with other handicapped men and they bring him to work everyday and he just blesses me beyond belief.
I often cannot understand what he is saying, But he just laughs and carries on a conversation like you are his best friend. He does this with everyone.
He is NEVER unhappy or if he is, He doesn't show it at all, I wish more people were like this young man and I believe we could all take lessons.
Under all the problems he has, He values others above all.
God bless him and I hope you have been blessed by someone like him too.

Yup, Zoe (my cousin) is polite and tidy (and really enjoys using her pre-paid bank card to buy orange juice and burgers in cafes :D )

Depends where on that Bell Curve you're asking about.
I've ran across some people that have some real scary issues, Don't know that I'd call it a blessing running into them. Though I guess I could say I was blessed surviving the encounter.

One of our g-kids has Autism and he is a holy terror of violence and destruction.
But he is charming and smiles on occasion. We just keep our breakables out
of his reach. His ability to speak has faded as he nears 5.

Oh yeah. When my autistic son was this age and even a few years older, I had to keep my glass stuff out of the way too. Until, I discovered he did it because he likes the sound and reactions of shattering glass. Scolding did nothing so I had to be creative to divert him. What I did was fill up plastic containers with water and freeze them. Made several so that the next time I saw him going for my breakables, I steered him to patio where it's all brick, gave him a sheet of ice and let him have at it. Whaddya know, it worked! We made it fun, too! It took several times but he finally got over his obsessive need to smash my glasses. And everybody else's! (Sorry mom!) lol

My son didn't really speak until the age of 10. Sign language helped with him. Now he talks non-stop but only about what's going on in his mind. He does try very hard to communicate with us but it's still a big guessing game alot of times. You really have to get into his world to understand him. And then we have days where he just blurts stuff out like he's almost normal and he can be quite the snarky dude! ^_^

@Southernscotty you're so right when you say we can all learn from the special needs. It's so true. We attended my daughter's graduation a few nights ago and I tell ya, those special needs kids got the biggest applause. They endure alot and yes, they are well aware of your attitude towards them and pick up on it. Just tell them what blessings they are and you've made their day.
I also know of others who are special needs and are not so fortunate. Tell them anyway. Even if they seem angry and cuss you out when you look at them. You tell them God loves you anyway. They hear you loud and clear.

They call this the Down's Syndrome Angel, "angel" is linked with "Down syndrome" like peanut butter with jam. Yet they still do everything they can to abort Down's Syndrome babies. Even though in some cases it can be so mild that you do not even recognize that there is a disorder. God says to choose life. WE can choose life or death, blessing or curse, sickness or health, poverty or prosperity. Each and ever individual has to make that choice for themselves. God will not make that choice for us.

I remember I was in a Church service once and there was a couple there that had a teenage daughter with severe Down's Syndrome. The girl was acting up and the mother was having problem dealing with her I discerned that this was an attack from a demonic force and it had nothing to do with the down's syndrome. So I prayed and took authority and I felt whatever it was leave and the girl was calm and fine after that. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and we went back to having church again.

Down Syndrome has zero to do with demonic possession. The girl may have been acting out because she didn’t cognitively understand that what she was doing was disturbing others, so the mother may have had to say something. That’s why she was calm when you returned most likely.

Blaming something you don’t understand on demons seems to be the easy way out rather than educating yourself.
