Well think about Mr. Anderson..he's haunted by trying to find Morpheus(God like character, father figure)--he is seeking him, all while using the alias Neo, which literally means new man. Morpheus is the one that shows Neo his slavish nature. Along comes Trinity (her name!) who empowers and enables Neo-much like the Holy Spirit! ;)

Free will is also at play in here to. Morpheus says nobody can be told what the Matrix is, that they would have to choose to experience it themselves.

So Neo (like Jesus character) actually dies and is ressurected!!

I've got a bunch more but I'm at work....

Ok ok...there are alot of people that can see eastern religion in it too. I was just sharing what I gleaned from it. Not fact, just my opinion.

The "Buddhist" elements are really badly depicted. I know a lot of Buddhists who weren't too happy the way the movie tried to add elements in their faith and, knowing something of Buddhist theology, I can understand why they felt that way.

i dont know much about Buddhism to be honest - but if it depicts them wrongly then fair enough! you can see so much christian links in there though!

Yeah, but you never hear the stories about Jesus flying around and beating up 'agents'... though that would be awesome.
He did, but it was a spiritual battle. Remember the people in the Matrix never saw Agent Smith, just like those who don't believe, can't percieve the spiritual world.
