The Matrix trilogy

The first one was my favorite, it may be my fav movie of all time, because it had a perfect blend of style (wire-fu) and substance (great storyline, symbolism, philosophy).

The other 2 matrix movies had good stories but bad scripts, if that makes sense. The lines are cheesy and the movies do not have the quality writing and storyline progression that the original had. The storyline about the previous matrices and "ones" was interesting and added new flair to the story, although i felt that it was a little forced and far-fetched, and not so much of an inspired idea. The second one overall was just not that good.

I liked the third one because it made sense the way things ended. How Neo bargained with the machines and ended the war (or at least stalled it) seemed like a fitting end. The overall storyline provided good bitter-sweet drama with Neo's sacrifice. I can't help it though, I like my action movies having good endings where the heroes live, and when I watch the original matrix i get a little sad because of neo and trinity's fate.

Revolutions wasn't excellent, but I think it was better than people give it credit for.

i found the third to be a major flop too. I like reloaded the best because of the major fight scene with the agent smiths. better stunts in it than the first and third. The only good thing about the third was probably the ending where zion was saved so yeah thats it.

One of the most popular trilogies that could've been and should've been, but then kind of flopped on the 3rd installment. I personally had high hopes for this series and would like to know what people on this board thought of it.

Of all the three, I've seen only the first two. But so far, Reloaded is the best. And from what I've heard about Revolutions, it seems Reloaded is the best of the trilogy. It contains some pretty amazing action sequences and special effects, and for that it beats the first one.

The first two are the best by far. The first one has the best story overall because of how new and fresh the idea was and the vast potential there was for an amazing conclusion in the last two films. Reloaded's story was not quite up to par with the original but the middle parts of trilogies are almost always the weakest story wise, with some exceptions. I liked all the new characters and the story itself was pretty strong, but the progression of that story was not as well done as it could have been. However, Reloaded had, by far, the best action scenes of all three movies.

Revolutions is a whole 'nother monster. I was disappointed with where the story went, how it ended, and all of the questions that the ending left. I was devestated when I saw the thrid movie because frankly, the trailer for Revolutions was and still is the best movie trailer I have ever seen. The trailer left me with such high expectations for something special from the movie that when we got the cookie cutter ending they left us with, I felt cheated. The special effects were amazing, the "Punch" alone was the single coolest effect in the whole trilogy, but special effects alone do not make a good movie and Revolutions is the ultimate example of this.

I bought the third one yesterday, but it wasn't really worth it.. I really hated it. Maybe someone can answer my questions here. Did neo die? why was the oracle there in the end? wasn't she assimilated by smith? what was with the little girl lying in the gutter? If smith was so destructive, why did he let the girl and chinese man go? Who was that old man in the ending scene?
What a stupid, stupid way to end a movie.....I would rather they had stopped after the 2nd and left everyone guessing then ruin it like they did.

The biggest problem I see with the last two parts, comes from the first part.
The Matrix was such a powerfull movie, there was no way it could be topped.

The first one blew me away so much, it left me with that 'wow' feeling. I went around saying, the first one was so good, how could they generate that magic agian?

But they did do a great job on all three parts.

Things I liked about the set.
-Great music! I think music is one of, if not the biggiest thing for a good movie, and these movies deliver.
-Great Action! I'm not going to say this movie sets the standards for action, but its up there.
-Great Characters! This trilogy is rich with them.
-Great Attitude! This is a "Movie for Guys Who Like Movies", full of in your face, never back down, type of bad boy attitudes. Everyone has one, and everyone wants to give you a piece of it.


Things I didn't like.
- It can get pretty confussing at parts, but that could be a plus, if your looking for a reason to watch these movies over and over.
- Trinity and Neo's love affiar seemed flat. They didn't spend too much time building this love story up, and its a good thing they didn't, becuase they just didn't seem believable.
-Trinity Rocked in the first one, but something was different about her in the next two parts. She seemed out of place in the last two movies.
-The second and third movies will have a Star Trek, or Star Wars kind of feel. There are two sides, and there is rank amoung the individuals, so there are alot of "orders", and reports, and people say "captian" alot.


Those problems are minor, the movies are great.

The first Matrix was excellent. With the second two, it's pretty clear that the film makers did not originally envision this to be a trilogy but were trying to cash in on the success of the first film.

For the romance between Neo and Trinity, if the film makers wanted that to carry any weight or make any impact at all, they completely chose the wrong acters. As it is, it was nothing more than a distraction.

I have to admit though that Trinity was kind of pretty guy.

Meh. The last two matrix movies sucked big time. The third one really sucked, but the second one had a couple good scenes. (the Smith fight and the Stairs fight come to mind here)

I enjoyed the first one... but had to see it twice to figure it out.
#2 and #3 were downers.

the 1st was outstanding
but i think they tried to be too clever with it in the next two with as they tried to have philosophical with it but weren't at all (all that rubbish about choices constantly being talked about)
in the end it just sounded pompous without any real depth to it - unlike the first film.

i thought they were all great; 2 and 3 were meant to be one movie in two parts. My favorite was 2-deeper concepts and more action. 1 was an original but the sub-plots through the whole series were wayy too confusing and did not corroborate each other.

This is going to sound very elitist – I know because I've been accused of such already – but it seems to me that the people who did not like the second and third installment of the series (Reloaded and Revolutions) are those that didn't get it. Honestly, if you didn't get it, then yeah those two movies are going to basically suck; they won't seem to have the same depth that the first did. But if you did get it, then you're going to see how remarkably deep they went and just how much metaphor and subtlety were packed into them – especially the third installment, which possessed almost more depth than the first. But you really have to be in tune with it, you really have to "get it" to pick up on a lot of the things, you have to have an idea how the Wachowski mind works. Take the subway station in MATRIX: Revolutions, for instance. There was just so much information packed into there, from the conversation between Rama-Kandra and Neo to the very name "Sati" and its implications – even the name of the platform Neo finds himself on, Mobil Ave. (an anagram of "limbo," about which Rama-Kandra even hinted for us when he said, "This place is nowhere. It is between your world and our world"). There were also a lot of clues in the Enter the Matrix video game, which included various video clips with important information (conversations between the Oracle and Ghost, for instance, which explain things about Sati).

When it comes to which movies I liked best, I would have to go with the first and third; whatever merit the second one had was lost due to its extensive filler scenes (e.g. the dance scene at Zion). It's been several months and I have still not finished mulling over Revolutions and its multifaceted implications and meanings. It was very profound and very deep, with a lot of interesting Christ motifs. There is, of course, a lot that could be said... but it's spoiler information and some here haven't seen the third installment.

Really loved the first Matrix, but after that, it just devolved and got worse and worse with each installment.

Reloaded had that freeway screamer chase sequence to make up for the fact that it bored the hell out of a lot of people with the whole Architect geezer who looked like he was trying to sell Keanu Reeves a matress.

Then there was Revolutions which bored me from start to finish.

I just had this feeling that the series turned into a nerd-fest. I felt like a dork after watching Reloaded and Revolutions.

The first Matrix was just all about attitude, guns, blowing stuff up, and chop socky kung-fu madness.

The success of the first must have diluted the Wachowski's into thinking they created something with depth and meaning.

Yeah, not make number 2 or 3. They beat it to death, especially with a 3rd one that was just one bug flurry of special effects and confusing storyline

The original Matrix and the Animatrix are by far the best, but 2 and 3 are a lot better then they get credit for. I think a lot of people didn't understand them, and they were bored as a result.

I love the whole trilogy... and Animatrix too! They are one of the best movies I've ever seen.
