  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

While cleaning up our vast collection of books which we have amassed over the years. I found the following poem which I had written when I was 15 years old.

The Priest he offers for you and me
the gift which God gave on Calvary
The Blood of Christ for us did shed
For you and I and all those dead

When I go to Mass to pray
I thank god for this day
For every living thing on Earth
and Our Queen who gave him birth

For all he has done I can't repay
Thank you Jesus for taking my sins away

That was a very good understanding of the Mass for a 15 year old, although not surprising for the time in which you grew up.

At the HS where I teach almost none of the students have a concept of the Mass as a sacrifice. For them it's simply a coming together for a meal, a banquet....and that makes me laugh when the administration expects them to be quiet when we gather in the auditorium on special occasions for Mass....now if they understood the concept of sacrifice like you did, perhaps they would approach it with more reverence?

Thanks for sharing your poem.

Do you have anymore poems? That poem is so beautiful and well-written.

God's Peace,
