  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

anyone? These guys are seriously talented and take music up a few notches again..very progressive but the label prog doesn't describe them. The albums are more of a total sensory experience even in that you can see the music with more clarity. every note seems perfectly in place. I think I put them above Floyd already and u should check them out, everyone should really

The Mars Volta is so amazing. I love them. Hard to explain in words how great of a band they are, so I'll just let you all listen to them and figure it out yourself :D

Thats exactly it man, they really are impossible to describe. You can go on about the guitar(oh man, been many years since I've heard anything like that) the bass just as good..and those vocals man he trandscends genders in the Widow half the time he reminds me more of say Janis Joplin more subdued
it's just incredible really
glad to meet another fan!!!! :)

peace

I only know Deloused in the Comatorium, but I like it a lot. I've heard a thing or two about the story involved nivolved, but I'd defy anyone to pick it up just from hearing it, lyrically it's incomprehensible, but musically, I think it's expertly and passionately played and doesn't sound like anyone else I've ever heard. I think it's a terrific record, people who don't like it are going to describe it in terms such as 'pretentious', 'grandiose', that sort of thing, but these things reflect the taste of the listener. I think it's a great album, and I'll hopefully get round to Francis the Mute one of these days...

Love them! Highly recommend Deloused. I do love a band where you simply are unable to say, "Yeah, they're great, they really remind me of __________ ".
Well, save for "they really remind me of At The Drive-In".

That said, I prefer At The Drive-In and Sparta.

I like At-the-Drive-In more, but I am not really a fan of Sparta (although I once was on a flight to Chicago and had the pleasure of sitting a row ahead of one of Sparta's guitarists [actually, it wasn't really a pleasure, or an unpleasant experience. nothing really happened]).

The Mars Volta is overrated, in my opinion. Their songs rarely feel like songs to me, and I think a lot of thier music stems from an aim at being pretentious. That is not to say that they are not talented, but I can't really get into them (although I thought Deloused had some decent songs; I wasn't impressed with Francis the Mute).

The LP and Deloused are much beter than Frances the mute, but frances is still a pretty good cd. I had the pleasure of seeing them live recentlly, and I must say, it was just as good live as it is on the cd. The unfortunate consiquence is I was also forced to listen to system of a down at the concert.
