  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you think this is a good advert for your beliefs?
What beliefs?

I was responding to this:
Given your knowledge of science...
And I responded like I usually do:
Eyes barn ignit; eyes die ignit.
Eyes barn ignit, eyes die ignit.
Eyes barn ignit, eyes die ignit.
Eyes barn ignit, eyes die ignit.
Eyes barn ignit, eyes die ignit.

So...no appreciation at all that, being a supporter of bible literalism and fundamentalist creationism on this forum, your willing and proud admission and embrace of ignorance of everything outside the Bible might be a tad damaging to your cause?

Scientists work to remedy their ignorance while you gleefully wallow in yours. You are not remotely the same.

Only to those who think science is salvific.

What do you want me to do? pretend I'm an Einstein?

Scientists work to remedy their ignorance...
I'm not a scientist, and even if I was, I hope I have shown you that ignorance is an EOE.
... while you gleefully wallow in yours.
You haven't been here long enough to see Internet scientists make remarks to the effect of: "I can't wait until our current models become outdated," have you?

Knowledge grows stale quickly, doesn't it?

Add a new element to the Periodic Table, and you can't wait until the next one is discovered, can you?
You are not remotely the same.
Well, since you compared me to scientists, I plead "guilty."

So, basically, your answer is no then.
What do you want me to do? pretend I'm an Einstein?

I don't want you to do anything. I'm just drawing your attention to how your current stance might be perceived by those you wish to persuade, as it doesn't seem to have occurred to you.

If by "here" you mean this particular internet forum, I've been here longer than you, and have yet to see a scientist make such an idiotic statement. From everything I've seen here, that type of remark is always from a creationist.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone to become a scientist, am I? I'm trying to show how faith* truly operates.

When I'm gone, I don't want to be known by how much I knew, but by how strong my faith was.

* Believing something, even if science says otherwise.

Who is it that you have so low an opinion of that you think they will be impressed by that?

If by "here" you mean this particular internet forum, I've been here a hell of a lot longer than you, and have yet to see a scientist make such an idiotic statement.
I have ... and for 4.35 posts per day, you must spend a lot of time lurking.

If you're claiming you've seen everything I've seen, I'm calling your bluff.
From everything I've seen here, that type of remark is always from a creationist.
I'm not interested in what you've seen, it's what you haven't seen that's obviously made you respond the way you did.

I'm glad you called it an 'idiotic statement' though. I could try to find the exact post(s), but the words were too common to Google.

so this is for no one:

I'm trying to show how faith* truly operates.

When I'm gone, I don't want to be known by how much I knew, but by how strong my faith was.

That's apropos of nothing presumably.

I wonder though, would you be impressed by someone of a completely different religion who said the same? By a Sikh or a Hindu or a Muslim? Would you admire the strength of their faith even if you thought they were wrong? And would it evoke any other emotions in you?

I was just playing to your loaded question.

Yes ... albeit in the sense of:

Luke 16:1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.
2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.
4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.
5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?
6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.
7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.
8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

And would it evoke any other emotions in you?
We have a saying that covers this nicely: He may be sincere, but sincerely wrong.

As well as: The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

Believing in things you have no good reasons for is not a quality to be admired.
