  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was perusing decapolis and was inspired to steal a thread idea (albeit modified).

So my question to you is:

What ten songs have had the biggest impact on you?

Here's my list:

"Heroin" -- The Velvet Underground
"I Am the Walrus" -- The Beatles
"The Times Are Changing" -- Bob Dylan
"Flamenco Sketches" -- Miles Davis
"Paranoid Android" -- Radiohead
"Lives" -- Modest Mouse (and about 20 others)
"Break My Body" -- The Pixies
"Two Headed Boy" -- Neutral Milk Hotel
"Sadie" -- Joanna Newsom
"One Mic" -- Nas

This is a horrible list, which I will want to change as soon as I post it; it'll be the first 10 that come to mind because I don't want to spend an hour on it, but that means good ones will get left out. Anyway:

Miles Davis- "Blue in Green"
The Velvet Underground- "Heroin"
Radiohead- "Let Down"
Neutral Milk Hotel- "Two-Headed Boy"
Belle and Sebastian- "If You're Feeling Sinister"
Bob Dylan- "It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Bleeding"
Joanna Newsom- "Sadie"
The Cranberries- "Dreams"
Slint- "Good Morning, Captain"
Sufjan Stevens- "Holland"
Yo La Tengo- "Green Arrow"

OK, that's 11, but I refuse to get rid of any of these. So there.
