I have just begun reading Stormie Omartians book, The Prayer That Changes Everything, which discusses some of the infinite characteristics of God. The one which has spoken to me tonight is He is the lifter of my head.
Perhaps you have worshipped the Lord with the song based on Psalm 3:3. Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me. Youre my glory. Youre the lifter of my head. And maybe, like me, you just skipped over that last part because it was a little unclear and you didnt want to appear unspiritual by letting anyone know you hadnt a clue what it meant! (Thats me, right there.)
While reading in Stormies book the list of characteristics, I determined to find out once and for all exactly that that phrase meant.
Like all good Christians, I turned immediately to the source of all information: The Internet. I found hundreds of references to the worship song I quoted above, and a couple of sermons which did not agree with one another. No surprise there, eh?
After determining that the Internet might not be the best place to start a spiritual word search, I hit the Book, read Psalm 3, and waited for the Lord to speak.
Guess what? He spoke. Big Time. He said: Make a list of the reasons you raise your head up. Then stop and think about I do those things for you.
Well shoot .I can make a list. Its not like he was asking me to go to Nineveh or something ! I propped up all the pillows on my bed (six of them its a girl thing), and leaned against the headboard with my journal and my pen and I started to think. With my head up.
So, heres the list. I purposely left out the comments I made, because I didnt want to distract you from what the Holy Spirit may be softly, sweetly whispering to you about your own inventory.
REASONS I LIFT MY HEAD
1. I lift my head when I am thinking about what to write on a list. (Thank You for creating humor, Lord!
)
Okay, now heres the real list.
Tell me, dear ones what are the reasons that you lift YOUR head? Do you have a vision of how the Lord can touch you and lift your head for you? How has that one bit of body language translated to His moving in your life? Wont you share the thoughts the Father lays on your heart so that we all may be encouraged?
Thank you, Father.

REASONS I LIFT MY HEAD

Okay, now heres the real list.
- When I worship and praise You in song.
- To change my line of vision, to look higher.
- In anticipation of something.
- When I sense something is happening just out of sight or earshot, and I want to be more keen.
- To survey my surroundings.
- To listen more closely.
- When a cool, cleansing breeze comes along and I want to take a deep, clean breath of it.
- In response to a sensory stimulus.
- When I am surprised, when I receive the awareness of something changing, or something new.
- In order to look for something I have lost.
- To change my focus from the thing which has me in its grasp to the hope which lies ahead. (Gee, I think I am getting the point now
.
)
- To take a break from concentrating on a task, stretch, breathe, and re‑orient myself.
- To feel sunshine on my face.
- While on a journey, to remind myself of the prize, the goal, the destination, and to see how far I have come.
- When I need to be brave.
- When I want people to think I am courageous, even I am not, really.
- When I am determined.
- When I feel confident.
- In those all‑too‑brief moments when I feel pretty.
- I raise my head when I am no longer ashamed.
