Thanks Marvin, is Faith in your understanding ( believing continually, or I believed once, and that was sufficient?)

Nothing! Like an unconscious man? So you would be saying were saved out of the womb. That we do absolutely nothing to engage God and His promises? Is this correct?
Now you have added words that weren't in your original question

lets not forget these answers and understandings are to be applied to the "once saved" part of the osas equation as per this thread.
Actually the misinterpretation of the word faith has lead to misunderstanding of the whole Word of God.

I know this was to Marvin but I had a couple of questions.... Once you know the truth...how can you unbelieve it? Once you know the truth the belief is no longer in the picture is it? From the point of knowing the truth it is then knowledge is it not?

Hey jerry, thanks for the reply. If I were to reply to your post it would probably derail this thread. This is a specific discussion about what we do or not do to be saved, fulfilling the "once saved Part of the osas equation. those are relevant questions, that probably deserve their own thread. If you start a thread i'll be sure to reply.

I understand that. That's why I posted the definition.

I'm not sure if doing nothing would be your understanding of what Faith is. But you are the 3rd reply for we are saved by us doing nothing. (its all God, we do nothing) thanks 57

Do we do anything to get the gift of faith? I would say...no.

We are justified before God and translated out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of light by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.

The cultivation of our assurance of having been placed in that position (seated with Christ in the heavens) is an ongoing work of both the Holy Spirit and us as we yield to Him, study His word and continue to grow in our walk with Him (be "sanctified" or "renew our mind").

The faith exercised at the moment of salvation is never "sufficient". If that moment of faith was the only exercise of faith in our life here on earth we would find ourselves in a situation where most everything we did in our life following conversion was just so much wood, hay, and stubble when we stand before Him on that day.

Ruling with Him from Heaven is a constant, ongoing fight of faith. We have been translated into His kingdom - but only the strong among us make much use of that position.

To do that - we must study the Word to understand what our standing is at this present time. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

What you don't "know" won't help you much.

It is here, in this undermining of faith in His Word, where the people who teach against eternal security here in the forum will have much to answer for when they stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ.

"Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment." James 3:1

The ten leapers were all healed but only one was made whole. Why? They all obeyed the Word of God (Jesus) but only one obeyed the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus said if you blaspheme the Son it will be forgiven you but whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit it will not be forgiven him. The Bible says the kindness of God leads to repentance, Jesus was kind to them but their hearts were hard, and only one obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine that was delivered to him (Romans 6:17), only one obeyed the Holy Spirit, and only one was made whole (saved and sealed with the Holy Spirit). Acts 5:32 God's gives His Holy Spirit to them that obey Him. But you will only obey if your heart has been prepared, and that is your responsibility (Jeremiah 4:3-4).

Whether or not one believes OSAS or doesn't....doesn't mean God does or doesn't approve them.

That would be...who obey the call to repent and believe.

The term "approved by God" cuts a very wide swath.

Of course - one can be a blood bought and justified child of God and still not have faith that that is the case and will always be so.

If you do not have that faith you are not approved of by God in that particular area of faith.

If you work to undermine the faith of others by teaching the falsehood that our salvation is only temporary - you, or anyone else who so teaches, will answer for it in some way when they receive their "stricter" judgment as a teacher.

No, it is a gift from God. But if God persuades you it is your responsibility to obey Him.
The best definition of faith in the Bible is where the Lord Himself tells the disciples what faith is. Luke 17:5-10, read carefully, it has been there for two thousand years but we have missed it.

I was under the impression by approved you meant "saved".

I know my theology isn't 100% correct.

What difficult Marvin is the ones that are pro osas are half right and half wrong. And the anti osas are half right and half wrong. In our temporal world they would both be right and both be wrong, even at the same. The problem is ln Gods world is a half truth is error. therefore both pro and anti osas are wrong.
