Who are the "Left"?

"The Left" are those people who do things like support civil liberties for all, who believe in quality health care for all, who believe in quality education for all, and of course, who support free speech.

A person is part of "the right" can support any number of the above "left" traits, but they can not support them all.

The ACLU upholds civil rights for all. Period. No matter thier religious, cultural, or political background, as long as it's a case that can be done brought forward in the US justice system.

Here you have a guy who is a lifelong Democrat. He's run for office as a Democrat several times. (State Representative, US Senator, Governor) each time he ran for office, he bragged about how liberal he was.

Liberals didn't welcome homeschooling without rigid reactions. They don't welcome the idea of school reform, social security reform, welfare reform, voting requirements reform, or tax reform (unless the reform is an increase in spending or taxation).

I have yet to meet these PC Police you speak of. Closest thing I can think of is the FCC (which fines people for obscenity that is publicly broadcast), and I'm certainly not a fan of them. Last I checked, the FCC doesn't care what color your skin is -- you say it in a public broadcast, you're fined.

There aren't bad words -- there are bad ideas. Words are all made up -- they have no meaning unless they are connected to an idea. For example: Bleeble-snorx glooble splatt. Also, some words have gained new meanings over time through use. Therefore, it obviously depends on the context a word is used in.

I say be as obscene or tame as you want. You are the one that has to deal with the consequences of your behavior.

If Kennedy had the choice of being a Democrat or a Republican today, he would still be a Democrat. I realize that a lot of conservatives and liberals look upon JFK fondly, maybe during his short time, he displayed the best qualities of both sides (a moderate). Never the less, he made the statement in response to someone trying to demonize him for being a liberal.

Some liberals may not like home schooling, but they don't react any worse than some conservatives react to public schools. I don't see common attacks against home schooling by liberals here, but I do see it from the other direction. The rest of your statement may apply to a few, but not to most. I'm hardly as liberal as many on this forum, in fact I prefer to stay moderate, but I would be proud to fit into Kennedy's definition, and I think many others would also.

It's odd that the people that don't mind that the US spends 50% of the worlds military costs (tax funded) complain about what some other people think taxes should be spent on. The theme seems to be that other than military, all taxes are liberal taxes. Personally, I think taxes should go to the states, and they should hand it out to the fed, not the other way around, and we should start saving taxes by eliminating waste, then we can figure out which programs are not needed.

Sadly this mostly true. I wish that more would see that our schools are failing. However, just passing out vouchers w/o addressing the underlying problems isn't the solution.

Check again. It was mainly Democrats who opposed it, who then left the party after the bill was passed. And you just made my point: reforming the voting rights act is totally unacceptable to Democrats, regardless of what the reforms suggested might be. Tell me, which party is opposed to reducing voter fraud by requiring photo ID, something that is attainable by ANYONE in America regardless of how much money they have?

History says otherwise. Amazingly, trickle-down economics worked wonders in Ontario ten years ago. They also worked in America twenty years ago. But I suppose real-world examples don't count, right?

There's a war on. I know that comes as a shock to many liberals. Military spending increases during wartime.
