In the second book of Timothy in chap. 3 beginning in verse 1...."This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobediant to parents, unthankful, unholy." In verse 1 the four words;"in the last days" are interpreted in Acts 2:17 which is the following;"And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now back to 2nd Timothy chap.3:3;Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.
Now take a look at some of the definitions of some of the words in 2ndTimothy chap. 3:
Perilous.....websters defines it as follows; danger, risk, hazardous, full of peril, loss or destruction, exposure of persons or property to injury;
Covetous.....money loving or the love of money, greediness, excessively eager to obtain and possess;
Blasphemers.....abusive, reviling, destroying ones good name, used to speaking things against God and sacred things;
Incontinent.....withou power of command over oneself, not restraining passions or appetites particulary the sexual appetite, unrestrained, without self control.\
Any of this sound like current events in our world today? Are these dangerous and hazardous times in which we live? Have we been experiencing great loss of life and destruction of properties?
This section of God's word could have been written today June 22nd 2002 and it would apply to our world situations !! In 2nd Peter chap. 1 verses 1-3 the Word declares the following: Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.
Those of us who have obtained grace and peace through a knowledge of God and his son Jesus Christ can remain peaceful even in perilous and very dangerous times in which we live!!!! I'm so very thankful to God for calling me to a knowledge of His truth via the written Word He has entrusted to His own.
