Mikyn paced the legnth of the throne room long after the rest of the palace had gone to sleep. A servant had told him to get some sleep, and Mikyn had refused.
Earlier that day, one of the mages had told him the news. Byron was dead; Jaiden was a traitor; Crystal was still alive. Hours later, Mikyn paced the floor, growling. How could he have trusted that boy? Yes, having his sister die at the hands of her lover would have been the sweetest revenge, but why hadn't he seen that Jaiden still loved her?
He couldn't have. No one could have. This thought was very reassuring, and Mikyn stopped pacing for a moment. He smiled. Jaiden may be a traitor, but he knew Taiven wasn't.
Taiven was powerful.
Taiven was heartless.
Taiven was a born killer.
And soon, this born killer would kill Crystal, and Mikyn would have the throne...and his revenge.
