  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'd recommend the OP get the flu
instead given his/her fear of the vaccine. It's not that bad. Just three weeks of aches and pain. :)

Btw, did you know that aspirin can cause hepatoencephalopathy in children? Or that penicillin can cause your skin to burn off? My preceptor told me
Your "preceptor told you":

Right, and 1000's of us have actually worked in medical-arenas, for decades. And therefore know...

As for having bacterial/viral antigens in vaccines----that's how most vaccines work: they shot you with dead/weakened bugs to elicit your immune response so that your body learns how to kill it when the real thing comes. Fever and other constitutional symptoms may appear briefly. Still beats a week in the ICU because you caught the disease.
After you've worked in ICU, for as many years as I have, come back here for a real chat...

Btw, don't freak out too much about bugs in your system. The human body has tons of bacteria in the human digestive tract. Plus most of us have bugs around our oral/genital openings.

Take a microbiology course, to learn more.
Yes, I teach... oh yes, including "infection Control" too.

Maybe you can get a clue ;) who you are addressing

Need I not repeat: what you claimed, is patently false!!!

How many people do you know who have died of smallpox? Would the answer be none? Do you know how many people died of small pox last year? Yep, none? Do you know why no one died of small pox? Because it has been eradicated. There is no more wild small pox. And do you know why? Because it has been eradicated by a successful vaccination program. So, no, what I said is not patently false, because there is a very big, very obvious case of vaccination saving lives.

You seem to be under the impression that vaccination should have absolutely no side effects. This would be nice, but is very unlikely. Anything that has a clinical effect on the body has a risk of side effects, as anyone who has worked in an ICU (or any where in the medical profession) should know. It’s all a matter of balancing risks. If the risks associated with vaccination are less than the risks associated with the disease, then vaccination is the way forward.

Lets look at measles vs MMR, for example:

Condition

Children affected after catching measles

Children affected after the first dose of MMR

Convulsions
Disease - 1 in 200
Vaccination - 1 in 1000
Meningitis or encephalitis
Disease - 1 in 200 to 1 in 5000
Vaccination - Less than 1 in a million
SSPE(A delayed complication of measles that causes brain damage and death.)
Disease - 1 in 8000 for children under 2
Vaccination - 0
Death
Disease - 1 in 2500 to 1 in 5000 depending on age
Vaccination - 0
So, while there is a risk of meningitis or encephalitis from vaccination, it is so much lower than the risk for catching the disease, that you’d have to be stupid to say that getting measles was better than being vaccinated.

Not everyone can be vaccinated, of course. Some people are allergic to the vaccines, some people have immune system issues which means vaccination would cause serious problems. But for these people, vaccination for the rest of the population is particularly important.
Refusing to have vaccination for anything other than clinical reasons is putting the health of others at risk. If everyone who could be vaccinated was, we’d prevent disease taking hold in a population and it would die out (unless it evolves fast enough). This is what happened for smallpox, this was what was happening for polio and measles. People who don’t understand the science scaremongering prevents this process happening and this leads to death. It’s one thing for parents to be confused as they are trying to do the best for their child, but “professionals” who spout this nonsense, particularly when they are trying to sell an alternative are disgusting.

You're welcome to post about "seat belts, riding helmets and child seats" in your own ;) thread. -
This thread is about
Society > Ethics & Morality > to vaccinations the "Informed...consent"?

No need to, as it was a comparison. Your justification is because of what is in the vaccines and the side effects of those; I'm merely comparing the rationale of that thinking, with those who believe safety equipment is not helpful either in saving lives.

How :o are you protecting  yourself & family?

Thanks -
for stating your personal :) opinion; and
on the contrary, 'vaccination' is not the only-way to be safe!

So, what alternative do you propose?

You, and the articles you linked, are correct in one point: flu vaccination is more difficult to achive than, say a vaccination against smallpox (which I hope you will agree was highly efficient). The current threatening virus also has its own problems: due to the need to quickly produce a vaccine, several security measures had to be neglected.

But still, this is a problem of risk evaluation: is the possible gain of the vaccination higher than a potential pandemic? And here the answer is still: yes, it is.

And as yet, neither you nor the vaccination panicers have provided an alternative.
