  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh yeah, I forgot that they were both FF's.

I love the Fiery Furnaces. Although the new album is still puzzling me. I like it, but it's different, and I have to get used to it. You'll understand when you hear it.

Franz Ferdinand is the one I said was catchy indie rock that may or may not be lasting.

Sorry about the confusion.

how is it puzzling?

I have the re-release of their first album... and the "EP" thing. But I don't have blueberry boat. i suppose i could get it sometime... but I've lived life without it well enough to this point that it hasn't become a priority.

I love your avatar :)

But besides that, how is the new Fiery Furnaces album? I'd forgotten it was even coming out. I have such mixed feelings with them, on the one hand, I really like songs like Cousin Chris and Tropical Iceland but am not too keen on Duffer St George or Single Again.

I am however, really looking forward to the new Franz album. I'll probably have to make a run to the Tower Records near my campus between classes on Tuesday to pick it up.

Oh man! I made a special trip between classes to pick up the new Franz (my campus is only like 5 miles away from the nearest Tower). I also got the new Broken Social Scene.

According to Pitchfork, Isaac Brock is the head of a new label, a subsidiary of Epic, called Glacial Pace. The first artist he's signing is Mason Jennings, who will release an album in 2006 produced by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart). I know I've tried to plug Mason Jennings before, but does anyone else enjoy him?

Here's the article:

Oh yeah, and if anyone was planning on picking up the dual disc release of Good News, don't. The song they added to the album ("I've Got it All (Most)") is pretty damn good, and the video they made for "The World at Large" isn't too bad, but other than that, it's pretty much the same as the original.

I predict that it will be closed in six to eight months to due Brockie spending all of the profit on beer.

Here's a funny piece about how crazy Cat Power's Chan Marshall actually is on stage: http://www.austinkleon.com/?p=40

Apparently she just walks off stage and starts and stops songs for no reason and mumbles about the KKK.

That's pretty much what she did when I saw her a year or two ago in Edinburgh. She came on slightly tipsy and got more and more drunk by swigging from a bottle of whisky whilst on stage, real classy like. She mumbled her way through songs and didn't even bother to finish some of them, and regaled us with many pointless anecdotes during her set.

Forgive me if this is a hokey thing to be doing, but I just got a myspace music up. It's indie (of course) so I thought youz guys might be interested. If you like Elliott Smith then you might like it.

Billy, Oh! Very well done...I think "Such is Humanity" is my favorite. I'm still really digging the guitar style. :)

Y'know...if either of you hadn't mentioned her by name, I would have figured you were talking about Karen O.
