A good site for 'indie' stuff is the BBC Collective. It has some great stuff from the Greenman Festival.

I just realized that the guy on trombone and various other instruments on the new Sufjan Stevens tour is John Ringhoffer (Half-Handed Cloud). I really wish I had realized that while I was at the show; I would have congradulated him on releasing one of my favorite albums of the year and apologize on behalf on America for letting his music be underappreciated.

Seriously, I was completely blown away. The best show I've seen in a long time.

I saw him tuesday in Cleveland. Good good show. Unfortunately, there was a constant buzz in the speakers whenever they weren't playing something (or playing something soft and acoustic)... which was really annoying. But it was pretty excellent.

I'm looking forward to seeing him here in my hometown... I think it will be a better show.

There were some sound problems when Laura Veirs played, but everything was fixed by the time Sufjan went on.

speaking of which, I really liked her set. I've been a fan of her recorded stuff for a while, but I had no idea she was such a good guitar player.

Yeah, I had never really heard of her -- aside from a passing comment from you at one point -- but I really enjoyed the set.

Jeff, keep an eye out for John Ringhoffer. He'll be the one playing the trombone and random other things. IMO, he's up there with Pedro and Sufjan when it comes to Christian artists.

I will. I am SOOO looking forward to this. I had to shelf my Sufjan stuff for a few days so that I wouldn't wear myself out on him, although I find that damn near impossible to do.

He's wrong.

he's "up there" with artists like Sufjan the same way Pluto circles the same sun as Saturn. Doesn't make him worth the gravity pull...

I wouldn't put Pedro up there, either, though.

How can you possibly find him boring? I mean, the more I think about it, his songs are like 1:00 each, so I find it hard to believe that even someone with severe ADD could be bored by the songs. And I can't think of anyone else who is doing the same sort of thing as he is, so I can't really see how his style could be boring. I suppose his lyrics are simple, but I think that is part of his genius: he keeps things to the point and is never really didactic in any of his songs.

Your boredom confuses me.

It's not boring in the sense that I can't make it through a song. But more in the sense that when the song is over I say "is that it? that was nothing..."
