  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Also, I have to hate on...

Modest Mouse, not only for selling out, but for making an overall bland album and failing to sell out the first time around (Moon and Antarctica... which I didn't like either)

Franz Ferdinand, for being cloying and derivative of something that didn't sound good in the first place

The Bravery and The Killers, for being boring, but moreso for being each being an imitation of an already bad derivative, but plus points for entertaining me with your cute faux-beef with each other

Annie (again), for being so bad it's insulting

Bloc Party and DFA1979, for being boring and receiving undue praise, and being boring

I agree with you that some of those albums are overrated, but I think some of this is subjective. Some people find Godspeed You! Black Emporer boring; others think they are amazing. Is one right and one wrong? Not really. I have really enjoyed Animal Collective, Iron and Bloc Wine, and Party. I have also enjoyed though not as much as others, Panda Bear and the Arcade Fire. Some of these albums may be hyped up, and some may get far more attention than they deserve, but I think they are better than you are making them out to be. To each his own, I guess.

That said, I really don't completely disagree with you. I really can't stand Annie that much. And there is very little Death From Above 1979 that I listen to. And I think Franz Ferdinand and the Killers are pretty derivative (although Mr. Brightside is a good song and some of thier other stuff is tolerable).

Yeah, I know. I was just showing my hipster cards.

Pfork sometimes hits it right on the head with what they hype, but a lot of it is pretty abysmal too.

Dear Pfork,

Annie - Anniemal
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs
Panda Bear - Young Prayer
Iron and Wine - Endless Numbered Days and Woman King

These are terrible albums. Stop trying to force trends.

Longtime reader,
Elliott

Really? I think that Woman King is pretty good, and I'm really taken by Our Endless Numbered Days. Sam Beam is my boy. :)

Good News isn't my favorite MM album, but I think it was necessary for the band's survival. I don't think they were up for another Moon and Antarctica, which might be my favorite album of all time. Different Strokes I suppose. :)
