The hypocrisy shown in dating profiles

I had been browsing some dating profiles and had come across this woman's profile, locally. She had a pretty nice write-up and mentioned how she is a woman of faith looking for a man of faith. A Christian and such.

I browse her photos, and she threw up a "meme" not a photo, a joke.

"What do you call a man that's under 5'11""

"Friends"

This rubbed me the wrong way and made me wonder how a woman of "faith" could make short man jokes?

There's a lot of shallow people in the world. Society encourages it. There's a lot of CINOs in the world too who live in the world, are totally part of it, but pay lip service to God to keep up appearances.

On the whole, dating sites are kind of the alley-access used car lot behind the dodgy pawn shop of places to meet people. Sure, there are some good folks on them, but they are eclipsed by the throngs of souls who use online dating as the last-ditch effort because they get zero attention anyplace else.

Yeah, I mean, they could use "Christian Mingle", but Christians are kind of forced to use more secular dating sites, but they sometimes have to empathize their Christianity in their profile, while at hte same time not overdoing it in their profile.

Stay away from hypocrites, there are THOUSANDS of those dime a dozen profiles. And if you had a similar joke she would probably block you.

How hard is deciding to skip this woman and moving on to the next without taking it personally? Do you really believe that an online dating site is going to be a source of complete honesty? Things like that help you cull out those who aren't good candidates.

Why do you feel the need to make dating preferences into a religious issue?

It just goes to show how different peoples' perceptions and values can be. Friendship potential is something that I actively look for. In fact, it's every bit as important to me as other aspects of attraction.

I know, right? Most guys in relationships are shorter than me, and I don't date very often, so clearly height isn't everything.

That said, the worst profile I've seen listed a required minimum salary. The minimum income a man must have in order to date her. Although I earned more than what she was looking for at the time, it was a huge turnoff.

You never know with these dating websites. Years ago, back in the AOL days, I met a woman online. She was very nice, so we met and had dinner. At dinner she told me she had just gotten out of prison a few months earlier. I don't have anything against anyone who has done some time. People can change. But, I wasn't looking for a friend. I was looking for a companion and I had some ideas of what that companion would be like. It would have been helpful for me to know about her incarceration prior to asking her out. Then again, who is going to put in their profile that they just got out of prison? Dating websites are a crapshoot. I thank God on the regular that I'm not looking for someone. I don't know where I would begin.

She made a joke. It's not a great joke, or necessarily nice to shorter men, but I don't see it as reflecting badly on her faith. Even people of great faith say things that are short of helpful.

She could make any short man become a tall man by using her faith....

Few would disclose that upfront. I learned the hard way that “it’s complicated” means married or living with someone. I’d never encountered the term in the past.

Dating websites are a crapshoot. I thank God on the regular that I'm not looking for someone. I don't know where I would begin.

I don’t use them but I maintain a copy of my profile in case I have a change of heart. They’re a viable option for forming acquaintances as are other venues. Keep them in their proper place and you’ll do fine.
