The Hunger Games

The kids killing each other was a bit wrong, but only from a societal view.

From a Christian view, murder is more than "a bit wrong".

Do you get equally mad about other movies with violence in them? The Gladiator, or any other similar movie?

What I'm mad about is not the presence of violence. It's the fact that Christians are lapping up the messages of books like the Hunger Games - namely, the message that violence and murder (and sin in general) can potentially be justified. (For example, Katniss is never portrayed as bad, is she? Even after she shoots a kid who's being torn apart by computerised dogs?)

It's up to us as Christians to be discerning and figure out what messages are good and true, and what messages are false and dangerous (1 Thes. 5:21-22, and that's why in my last post I included those verses from Titus). So I really don't understand why, when it comes to the Hunger Games, our discerning nature suddenly fails us and we end up loving the series - despite all the violence and more importantly, the messages about such violence that it provides.

Fair enough, but how do revolutions halfway across the world have any impact on the individual in everyday life?

That depends on how you look at it. We can certainly say that they do make an important long-term impact, as they can affect decisions about governmental policies that impact citizens, as well as trade from the region.

Regardless, it is important to understand the struggles of those far away. I think that it would be quite hard for the U.S. to be the 'leader of the free world' if the entire country just said 'eh, doesn't really affect me' whenever important foreign events happened.

I was not focusing on "murder", but rather that kids are murdering each other. "Kids" is up to society, perhaps in their society(I've never read the books), kids are not killing each other, but rather, adults are.

While Katniss wasn't portrayed as "bad", the actions she had to choose were. She never wanted to kill anyone, and was emotionally pressed to do so. Seeing that, I took it upon myself not to conform to peer pressure or let emotions sway my decisions, lest I end up like her. I guess my perspective is quite different than others, so my perception of the movie is different than the one you address. I agree with all your points, they just don't line up with how I viewed the movie. :)

QFT. Peer pressure is horrid, and since the Hunger Games is so huge, everyone feels they must like it. I enjoyed it, but my convictions and discernment led me to view the movie differently than others.

Anywho, have a blessed day!
