My son has been pushing me to get back in shape. He has taken to boxing like most of the guys in my family and we have been hitting pads, sparring and doing some dirty street boxing for self defence. I found this quote in one of my old books by a catch-as-catch can wrestler:
“Stick to your daily exercising and let nothing stop you, regardless of circumstances, unless a serious injury should happen to you, for once you neglect your training you will find it more difficult to start over again. Remember, a tool always in use never becomes rusty. Do not be satisfied with one form of exercising. Vary the movements and change your program occasionally, so as to prevent it from becoming monotonous.” Earle Liederman’s The Science of Wrestling and the Art of Jiu-jitsu (1930)
I could not agree more...a tool always in use never becomes rusty.

Come on twin, do you still practice your Tae Kwon Do forms?
In all honesty no I don't. I don't usually tell folks this but I am in constant pain. Every time I try to get in shape, which I do sometimes when I don't feel too bad, I suffer for days. I can't remember the last time I actually felt good or didn't have pain. I do try to walk but even that causes my knees and hips to hurt. I am not an invalid but I sometimes think it will not be long before I will be. My misspent youth was a hard life and folks used to tell me that I would suffer when I got older. I had no idea that they would be right and no idea how much.

If only I had the time and money to go to a gym! There was a time when I would lift weights as often as I could, actually took a weight lifting class freshman year in high school, and loved it. Also used to take "Kenpo" lessons...was working up to purple belt.

I really need to exercise at least three days a week, especially with the condition I have...need motivation...and strength...
