  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Due to popular demand (ok just lots of posts on the subject) I'm starting the General Theology Fellowship Beer Thread! Here, there's no discussion of denominations, or no theological debates, just fellowship, and the discussion of beer! (Ok, ok, all forms of adult beverages! Don't want to discriminate!) Remember all forum rules, but just have fun with this! This is a thread we can go to, to relax, and forget the stresses of debates we're having elsewhere in GT or anywhere else. Enjoy, and Cheers!

I'm a Christian, I don't drink alcohol.

As am I, and I drink alcohol extremely rarely. However, this is a fellowship thread. It was simply inspired by a derailed thread. That thread was derailed by....beer! It started a good, friendly discussion, and since that's rare these days on GT, I used it as a basis to start this fellowship thread!

Yes I understand your intent here. My response was just a light hearted comment on the irony of a non theological thread on a very theological principle of temperance, practiced by many Christians, including myself.

May I make a suggestion and that is, we include coffee in the thread and of course tea for the teetotallers? :)

I'm a Christian, I drink alcohol.

"If any Bishop, or Priest, or Deacon, or anyone at all on the holy list, abstain from marriage, or meat, or wine, not as a matter of ascetical discipline, but out of an abhorrence thereof, forgetting that all things are exceedingly good, and that God made man male and female, but blasphemously misrepresenting God’s work of creation, either let him correct and purge his ways or let him be excluded from the Church. The same applies to a layman."

A Samuel Adams sounds fantastic right now...

Being that it is frighteningly cold out though, I believe my hot pomegranate tea will do just fine. :D

Let me also make the suggestion that we be careful with a thread such as this, so as not to let anyone's addictive personality get the best of them.

I find it strange that a thread on alcohol is even on a Christian site to be honest. A lot of Evangelical churches in England abstain completely from the consumption of alcohol. It’s not a legalistic thing as most would not condemn anybody for drinking, it’s just not done.

When somebody exhibits true conversion, usually within a short period of time social drinking becomes unimportant and with it the need for alcohol. England has big drink problems amongst the young people. Drinking is legal from the age of 18 here and much violence and civil disorder is committed because of it. I do not see any need for Christians to drink but I do see the abstinence as a good example to a beer and drink dominated culture.

Also my uncle was killed by a drunk driver and I'm all too aware of the real evils of drink.
