My friend has recently left the Christian faith for Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) because he simply couldn't justify nor tolerate God damning souls to hell forever, he found in the Bhagavad Gita a more merciful idea of God that he could believe in, without all the hell-fire and brimstone, they don't at least teach of an everlasting Hell in what he practices.
Preamble:
My faith involves the Theology of our pre-conception, pre-earth, existence or PCE. It involves the creation of all beings in GOD's image well before the creation of the physical universe. I will write about it as a finished faith, and as the truth but I will preface it as my Christian opinion.
The bible story of HIS work with mankind culminating with the heavenly marriage has convinced me that the heavenly marriage was the purpose of our creation which made our free will an absolute necessity for a marriage based upon love to be real. That is, YHWH was not a Borg willing to have a Stepford wife.
To achieve HIS purpose GOD created everyone able to fulfill HIS purpose, Isaiah 43:7, 21, able by their creation to have a marriage relationship with HIM, that is, no one was created unable to be HIS Bride in any way at all for any reason at all. YHWH created everyone in HIS image (ie, not an animal but as people who would make an appropriate marriage partner) with a free, uncoerced, non-constrained, will and an equal ability and opportunity to choose by faith, an unproven hope, Heb 11:1, to put their faith in HIS claims to be our GOD and Saviour for any and all sin OR to put their faith in HIM being a liar and therefore a false god driven by a psychotic megalomania.*
Knowing that proof of HIS divinity would coerce everyone to accept HIM as GOD and husband, even those not inclined to accept HIM, so rather than showing the proof of HIS divinity right off, HE proclaimed HIS deity and the gospel of salvation to all who put their faith in him and the warning of eternal damnation for all those who repudiated HIM as their God, explaining the effects of sinning the unforgivable sin. I contend this proclamation is mentioned in Col 1:23, as a past and finished proclamation to every creature under heaven, ie ever created, which has not been fulfilled on earth so it is a lie if it doesn't refer to a past finished event in fact.
To influence our decisions of faith, without coercion, [An influence can be studied and then ignored but coercions cannot be resisted...] HE explained that those who accepted HIS deity would be chosen, elected, that is, promised to be saved from all sin to become HIS Bride once they were fully sanctified. As well HE warned us about the dangers of choosing to repudiate HIM as our god that this unforgivable sin would end us in hell.
Three points of view grew in the heavenly society over time until everyone was firmly established in their minds and hearts in their belief about HIS deity and veracity:
1. The vast majority of people chose to put their faith in HIM being who HE claimed to be, our Creator GOD, and these folk were elected to salvation and to be HIS Bride.
2. Those people who were iffy about the full truth of HIS claims but who did not want to take any chance on ending n hell who therefore chose to put their faith in HIM as their GOD until they were safe from hell, ie they were safely under the promise of salvation, and then they planned to go their own way even if HE judged them to be sinful. YHWH knew HE could work with these folk and bring them to full sanctified faith so this decision was quite all right with HIM. This group was also elected to salvation and to be HIS Bride and comprised about 1/3 of the whole of the elect group of people.
3. And lastly, the small minority of people who chose to believe, ie, to put their faith, their unproven hope, in the idea that HE was lying about being higher or better than anyone else and therefore they rebuked HIM as not a god at all but a false god driven by a psychotic megalomania.
*In my studies of contemporary religions and the anti-theologies of secular materialism before my conversion to Christianity, I found these ideas to be the most common and favorite depictions of the atheistic view of YHWH often shared by those of other religious convictions that YHWH was a God but one who had gone astray himself, the source of where the idea of HIS psychosis cames in, sigh. It was always coupled with eternal torture in hell as ungodly and evil.
This group led by Satan stumbled over two main things: the unwillingness of YHWH to provide proof of HIS claims and HIS contention that hell was an absolute necessity for those who repudiated HIM based upon the enslaving, addictive, effects of sin upon their minds and psyche.
HE warned that once they repudiated HIM they would be enslaved to evil and unable to ever choose to be righteous or holy, ie, fit to be HIS Bride, ever again. At the same time, they would be putting themselves outside of HIS desire to grant them mercy by grace because they had repudiated HIM by their free will and HE was committed to their right to choose. To coerce them to become free of the consequences of their choice would deny their free will so HE was bound to accept their choice as an eternal fact.
They chose to never let HIM save them and then as sinners they could not change their minds without grace, (Romans 1:18+ explains the dynamics of this unforgivable sin and the eternal loop of sin they were locked into, loving sin more than the truth even when it was finally proven to them) thus the consequences were set for their fate: all that could be done with them was to banish them from the heavenly reality so their evil could not contaminate, corrupt, leaven, HIS marriage, Galatians 5:9.
The fall of 1/3 of the elect into sin (the sheep, the elect, who went astray) was for the same reasons. When GOD called all the elect to come out from the damned and to be separate from them, ie, their friends who were now under condemnation, 2 Corinthians 6:17, Isaiah 52:11, Revelation 18:4, Those few elect who were rebellious to HIS plan to damn their friends who had rebuked him as liar, brought their rebellion into the open and they became sinful in HIS sight, needing the redemption found only in the Lamb to be able to be accepted as heaven ready.
By this sin the sinful elect forced the postponement of the judgement until they were fully sanctified so the call of judgement against all sinfulness would not have any effect upon them as written in Matt 13:27 The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’ 28 ‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. [a reference to the explanation of this parable, ie, no more metaphor, in verses 36-39]
So the servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ [to bring the judgement upon them?] 29 ‘NO!’ he said, [postpone the judgement because...] ‘if you pull the weeds now, you might uproot the [sinful] wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. The time of the harvest is the time of the maturity of the wheat and the only maturity that saves a sinner from the judgment is a mature holiness!
Thus their sins separated them from the holy elect and are the cause of the continued suffering of mankind on this earth.
Earthly life is the arena for the redemption of the sinful elect in which they are confronted with their love and idolatry of the eternally sinful reprobate which they must repudiate to become holy and heaven ready.
Thus my pov is that this separation between those who accept YHWH's uniqueness and HIS need to eternally separate HIS holy creation from sin by the banishment of all the eternally sinful (by their own choice) ie, those who believe that damnation is not GODly nor righteous, is as ancient as creation...and it will not be resolved here on earth but only by the will of GOD when the last sinful elect finally chooses to be fully holy.
