I did this earlier. I got traditional working class. But I don't think it works well for students because I haven't started earning money, and most of the people I know haven't got into their higher status careers yet. I also need to be a little more cultural.

Fornicate the establishment!

What does that mean? Sounds dirty. :p

I think that's the problem with that page's calculation - I'm also a student but postgrads get paid next to nothing assuming they even get paid. Because of that, I need to rent and don't own yet. Those were the criteria that got me into the precariat class. Even though I'm the child of two academics and my interests were almost all stereotypical middle class ones. All a bit puzzling.

Seems like they're concluding precarity on the grounds of being in the low income bracket and not being a home-owner. I wouldn't say I have poor job security though, it seems a bit Ian Duncan Smithish to say I'm in the same situation as someone who's really struggling to find a secure job!

I am an Emergent service worker.

I took the test this morning.
Interesting.

Students are, most of the time, in theory, supposed to fall into the Emergent service worker group judging by how the group was described on the news.

Low financial stability, high social life and goals.

It does not help even if he offers you all the icecream at the North Pole,

Perhaps you need to know more types of people, and have more culture to get above precariat. :p

I don't think I clicked enough higher status jobs types, or higher culture, to get emergent service worker. I might do more stuff like that when I have money.

I think my dad said he got technical middle class, which I guess makes sense, and I like the sound of saying I am that or emergent more than working class. ^_^

I looked at the weighting of different friendships - seems to me my friendships with professional types (solicitor/accountant/CEO) have more impact than my friendships with non professionals (farm worker/cleaner/shop assistant). Is that just my perception?

It doesn't work well when you're out of work too. I had to do it twice because my profession is teaching but I'm not currently earning anything close to that what with being at home with MC. Got two different classes.

Gardarene made me laugh out loud with that one. I'm storing that one for an opportune moment in the not too distant future...:)

This was the other group it classed me as when I altered my income status.

Now that's weird because I also clicked video gaming, plus being mates with a cleaner.

It's got to be the home owner status, I reckon.
