  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

John 3:16-22 King James Version (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son ON A CROSS FOR THE SACRIFICE OF SINS, that whosoever believeth THAT HE IS JESUS should not perish IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through FAITH IN HIS NAME might be saved IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT.

AS IT IS WRITTEN:

Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized INTO CHRIST shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

18 He that believeth on him AND IS BAPTIZED is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19 And this is the condemnation, that ETERNAL LIFE is come into the world, and men loved DEATH rather than LIFE, because their WORKS WERE OF MAN.
20 For every one that doeth THEIR OWN WORKS WHICH ARE BY THE LAW hateth the LIFE, neither cometh to the LIFE TO BE BAPTIZED, OR ELSE his WORKS should be CORRECTED.

21 But he that doeth THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD WHICH IS BY FAITH cometh to the LIFE TO BE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST, that his WORKS may be made SEEN, that they are WORKED in CHRIST.

22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.

What causes you to say this:

20 For every one that doeth THEIR OWN WORKS WHICH ARE BY THE LAW hateth the LIFE,

What English version of the NT are you using?

King James Bible
You sure did revise the KJV quite a lot here:

You added a lot. Why? Below is the actual passage from the KJV:

John 3: KJV
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The meaning of the text has not changed and the interpretation is correct. I added it because the text is hard to be understood without the Spirit of God.
So then you're using the KJV Edited for Content by psalm911 version?

That's right the text has not changed, you just added to it your interpretation. That is adding to the Word of God. The 'works of the law' and 'baptized' are nowhere in the text of John 3:16-21. Verse 22 begins another dialogue and context.

Acts 19:18 King James Version (KJV)
18 And many that believed ON JESUS came, and WERE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST CALLING ON HIS NAME, and shewed their WORKS IN CHRIST.
.
...and now for the real verse as it's actually written in the King James Version:
Acts 19:18 King James Version (KJV)
18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

It is VERY important that we NOT add to or take from holy Scripture, for it is God's immutable Word to man; and we will surely be held accountable to it---rather than man's interpretations. I have found the KJV to be very dependable if read as shown, though there are a few minor errors by translator. I much recommend the Old Scofield KJV Study Bible to see the Word of God, and to thus note the margin and commentary notes which show any significant errors by translators ---for there is NO perfection in man. Pray much for God's mind, dear friends.
