Do you ever think about how there will be so many things we will never see and know? Do you find that sort of sad?

Things like; will humanity survive its expansion of knowledge on earth, will we meet aliens, will 'humans' survive the beyond the universe, if not how will it and life end, what amazing future future technologies will there be, what will the future evolution of humans be like, will they be emotional or just rational?

Also more everyday things like, what will teleportation be like or will be be like death to use it, what will virtual reality be like, what will AI robots be like, will humans become immortal or at least reverse ageing?

With perhaps the exception of AI, there is no chance we will know these things or the end of the story. If there were ever a chance to live forever, I think this would be my reason to stick around.

Excellent question. Exactly the same question which bothered me in my mid-life, particularly in my 40's. I was overwhelmed by the knowledge existed and needed, that I was actually very depressed by the fact. (my symptom was: the more I learned, the more I need to learn. And there is absolutely no hope to see the end. Very frustrating.)

Thank to my God that He makes me understand and see the answer: The meaningful thing is not on how much I can learn, but on how do I learn. In other words, I learned the meaning of learning.

This understanding makes me continue to learn, even I know that all the knowledge I can learn is ultimately insignificant, but the way I learn is very significant.

I'd say time to take like a little less serious, you won't burn out by the time you hit 25

Personally, I hope that I see some of these things in my life time. Some form of AI, maybe a colony/base on Mars, maybe some form of reserve aging but I suspect more things to delay the aging process.

In the far future, it is hard to say. We have issues to sort on earth like global warming, food and water distribution, overpopulation and making sure that a global war doesn't happen again.

We do know the answer to most of those questions to some degree. The percentage of humans that will survive is fairly small. So that over population will not be a problem again for at least 1,000 years. The average age will be at least 100, it is around 80 now. As far as aliens anything like us would be so far away they could not travel that much distance. A lot of that stuff started out with stories from people who were drinking to much and exposed to to much swamp gas. Then Hollywood picked it up and started a lot of stories.

If you are considering human nature or the human condition rather than techonological advances, we can get a pretty good picture as to how it has always been and will be in the future. A change in consciousness in the race must occur to see a better mankind.

Yeah, possibly. There could be a hotel on the Moon too in our lifetime.

I am fairly confident we will get over the food and water problem when we have an energy source like fusion.

Well I'm considering it all. There could be a change in human nature by a change in genetics or combination of human and robot don't you think?

I'm not sure if that will be completely true. If fusion does work and gets commercialised, only the rich countries at the time will be able to afford it. It could be used to power desalination planets but not many countries could do that.

Many many people stop learning when they get what they want by what they have learned (for example, get educated and become rich). They will never have your problem (in the OP). In order to keep learning, one has to answer a question: why should I learn more than I need?

One of the understanding is: our learned knowledge does NOT end when we die (knowledge is the only thing we can take it with us when we die). Of course, this is not the key answer, but a consequence of another key understanding: We do not really die. If you do not accept this assumption, then questions in your OP will have no solution. Learned or not, we die. What is the difference? Who care how smart the future robot will be?

Why will only a small percent of people survive?

Because of the 1,000 year reign of Christ. The earths population has to go back to what it was 1,000 years ago. So that overpopulation is not going to be a problem for the next 1,000 years. There will be no war, there will be nothing to control the population then. The growth rate is very high now. The worlds population doubles every 30 years.

I assume only angels (good and bad) can come to this earth and see what is happening. Actually, what could happened on this earth is pretty boring. We have seen them all (no new things under the sun). After we die, we will have better things to do.

Could be when we die we may wake up in a alternate universe that is not that much different then the one we are in.
