• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay, I know this is a recovery/sharing of struggles board... but they say that laughter is the best medicine.
So I wanted to start a thread where we can post those funny little things that OCD makes us do, or funny little situations it has caused, that we can now look back on and laugh a little.
This may be my odd humour coming through... but seriously, why can't we poke fun at the monster every now and then?

[If anybody finds this thread offensive, I'm sorry, and I'll try to delete the post]

I'll start.

I find myself packing large quantities of stuff into my schoolbag sometimes. Things I might need (around 5 books, exercise books for all my subjects (just in case), umbrella, art journal, and what other things I am impulsed to carry around). Seriously, I end up not being able to fit anything more into my bag.
Ever felt God telling you "take this, and that, and this, this will be good if you get bored. Oh, and what if you're house catches fire? You don't want to loose these".
Then, after a day of lugging junk around everywhere, you unpack, realising most of it just sat there the whole day, and at best got in your way.

Anyone else?

i have an art collection. it's so funny. i compulsively add the oddest things to it. maybe it's the color, or a thought, or whatever little thing that attracts me to it.
angels, piggies, frogs, monkeys, abstract, people's faces; you name it... i have had to store alot of it in containers out in my garage. i have books of their pictures, web files, etc. i loose track of half of it. i go crazy trying to dust everything. anyway. it's funny. like a pet or something. lol... from any age range... lol, paints, scupts, crayons, crafts, i'm doing it now. lol. my brain is racing with art. ok. i think this thread is theraputic. i have to agree we can enjoy some of our quirks. now, you should see my collection of art supplies! lol in the house, in the garage, in, under, colors, colors , projects, eek. lol!!
it's better than my old habits of walking in patterns, checking the time, the door, the windows, the temperature, the kitchen, and the calendar. (which my doctor says is very good because i loose time and days)... ya. like i'm really gonna post this. ????? should i be brave? it's hard to exspose yourself. ????? i don't like this feeling. i'm not crazy  i better take my meds and go to bed. i can't believe i'm thinking about posting this anyway. the Lord help me. i feel so little now.

I think it's very good to find humor from time to time in our OCD activities as long as we also have a real understanding of just how painful it can be when we are in a flare. Retrospective humor is good, but it's hard to laugh at it when the monster of OCD is in the drivers seat.
My newest OCD activity which I find funny is that I fear being idle for any length of time. Not for the good reason that idleness can lead to sin but rather because it might mean that I'll start to obsess again and if I do I might get sick again... blah.. blah... blah. (the "what if" syndrome) So now I'm having to actually force (exposure) myself to sit down and watch TV from time to time without freaking out about being idle. (response)
Well at least I'm getting a lot done around here and my house is cleaner than ever.
Crazy stuff eh? :)
