CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone have any idea what predators ate after they disembarked the ark? Don't say carrion....most predators do not like to eat carrion.

I believe lucaspa posted a paper not too long ago where the writters looked at as many ancient myths as they could find and they discovered that less than half of all cultures have a flood myth.
I believe more cultures have a talking animal myth than a flood myth, but im not quite sure.
I would say that the abundance of flood myths has to do with civilizations often forming next to a sea, river, ocean, etc. Not knowing how big the world was, the first time a big flood came from that sea, river or ocean, they thought the entire world was flooding.

Can you at least tell us how we might identify the defining event in earth history in the geologic record? For example, what set of strata marks the onset of the flood on a global basis? JM: That's the point. It's already been disproven. 150+ years ago and by people who went looking for the evidence because they too believed it was an actual event. They concluded there was absolutely no evidence supporting a global deluge and insurmountable evidence indicating it COULD NOT have occurred. However, I'll accept that you have no idea whether or not there is any physical evidence for the flood. At this point, it places your belief in the flood on equal footing with trolls, fairies and elves.Alessandro said:

I would not equal it to a myth (fairies). It came from God so I cannot put it on the same standing as a myth.

JM: Well, the sun is made of cheese. However, God did not say there was a global flood. The Sumerians said it and the Hebrews liked the story so much that they borrowed it. We know this for several reasons. !st the Epic of Gilgamesh predates the Pentateuch. 2nd there is no physical evidence for the flood. 3rd, the Hebrew and SUmerian cultures shared a common history so it's no surprise that the Hebrews borrowed especially powerful stories into their history. Since you have no evidence to support your claim other than a borrowed story from the Sumerians, the Noachian flood is on equal footing with fairies, elves and trolls.Routerider said:
